Germanane Quantum Dots Promote Metabolic Reprogramming of Immune Cells Toward Regulatory T Cells and Suppress Inflammation In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metabolic changes in immune cells direct the phenotype and function of the host immune system. Smart nanomaterials must target metabolic pathways to direct immune cell fate. This study reports the fabrication and first application of germanane quantum dots (GeHQDs) to modulate inflammation in vitro and in vivo.

Detecting the Absence of Lung Sliding in Lung Ultrasounds Using Deep Learning

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Certain post-thoracic surgery complications are monitored in a standard manner using methods that employ ionising radiation. A need to automatise the diagnostic procedure has now arisen following the clinical trial of a novel lung ultrasound examination ...

Lung Ultrasound in Critical Care

open access: yesIndian Journal of Respiratory Care, 2020
Point of care ultrasound for critically ill patients in intensive care unit has enabled clinicians to expedite the process of diagnosis and treatment without exposing the patient to any of the harmful radiations. Lung ultrasound (LUS) ensures an accurate assessment of the disease pathology, is easy to learn, widely accessible and can be performed at ...

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

PD-L1 testing for lung cancer in the UK: recognizing the challenges for implementation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A new approach to the management of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has recently emerged that works by manipulating the immune checkpoint controlled by programmed death receptor 1 (PD-1) and its ligand programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1).

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.
