Evaluating the Prevalence of Optimal Neurodevelopmental Outcome at 4.5‐Years in Children Previously on Ventricular Assist Device Support

open access: yesPediatric Transplantation, Volume 30, Issue 2, February 2026.
One third of children implanted with a VAD at < 6 years of age will have an optimal neurodevelopmental outcome. Being female and having a VAD implanted after 2015 is associated with an optimal outcome while a neurological insult is associated with a nonoptimal outcome.

Enhancing Surgical Decision‐Making for Infected Cardiac Device Lead Removal With 18F‐FDG PET/CT: A Case Study and Literature Analysis

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Residual implantable cardiac electronic device (ICED) leads pose a significant infection risk, necessitating a multimodal diagnostic and therapeutic approach. This case highlights the critical role of PET/CT imaging in guiding surgical decision‐making, particularly in cases of chronic infections with embedded or fractured lead fragments. While

Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound to Find Patent Foramen Ovale Before Left Ventricular Assist Device Placement

open access: yesClinical Neuroimaging, Volume 3, Issue 1, 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and purpose Detection of patent foramen ovale (PFO) has become important with the increasing use of left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) for advanced heart failure. After LVAD implantation there may be increased right to left shunting through a PFO causing hypoxemia.

Proteomic Biomarkers Are Linked to QTc Interval in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure

open access: yesPROTEOMICS – Clinical Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective This study investigates the link between circulating proteins and rate‐corrected QT (QTc) interval in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and their association with cardiovascular outcomes. Methods and Results We analyzed 197 HFrEF patients from the prospective Serial Biomarker Measurements and New ...
