The Articulated and Non-Articulated Stem in Selaginella (Selaginellaceae - Lycopodiopsida)
American Fern Journal, 2018The present investigation presents a clear differentiation between the articulated and non-articulated stem of Selaginella, based on morphological and anatomical characteristics. We also take the first step in developing a clear definition of the articulated stem in Selaginella.

Isoetes sahyadrii was described from a T.S. Mahabale specimen at the same site in southern India from which I. dixitii and I. panchganiensis were subsequently typified. Mahabale indicated that his “type specimens” were deposited in the Gujarat College, Ahmadabad herbarium.

We describe and illustrate Selaginella kriegeriana, a narrow endemic species from Caparao National Park, Brazil, and discuss its affinities. Scanning electron micrograph images of spores and leaves supplement our discussion. In addition, we present a synopsis of the Selaginella species from Caparao National Park, with an identification key and ...

Two new endemic Isoetes from Zhejiang, China, Isoetes changleensis (2n = 22) and Isoetes yuhangensis (2n = 22), are described and illustrated. The morphological characteristics of I. changleensis, such as the presence of tuberculate and irregularly rugulate megaspores having a broad equatorial band with densely rugulate ornamentation, make it easy to ...

After being employed for approximately 40 years as a device for the protection and display of megaspores on Isoetes herbarium specimens, the utility and benefits of sporewells are reviewed. A streamlined process for their rapid and inexpensive manufacture is described and their contribution to specimen conservation is assessed.
