Immunorecognition in Lymnaea stagnalis

Abstract Phagocytic blood cells (amoebocytes) of the common pond snail, Lymnaea stagnalis, produce a protein which functions in immunorecognition. In the serum it has agglutinating and opsonizing properties, on the surface of amoebocytes it occurs as a cytophilic receptor for foreignness.
