Fluoride alters feeding and memory in Lymnaea stagnalis

Journal of Comparative Physiology A, 2021
Fluoride occurs naturally in the terrestrial and aquatic environment and is a major component in tea. Prolonged fluoride exposure alters metabolic activity in several aquatic invertebrates. For the first time, we investigated the effects of fluoride on cognition in the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis as it is capable of a higher form of associative ...

Stressful stimuli modulate memory formation in Lymnaea stagnalis

Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, 2007
Stress has been shown to be a strong modulator of learning and memory in animals. We employ operant training of aerial respiratory behaviour in our model system, the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis, to show that application of an acute consistent physical stressor enhances memory formation.

The haemocyanin of Lymnaea stagnalis L. (Gastropoda: Pulmonata)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1975
Abstract 1. 1. The haemolymph of Lymnaea stagnalis (L.) was shown to contain a typical gastropod haemocyanin by virtue of its absorption spectrum, copper content, and electromicroscopic appearance. 2. 2. The native haemocyanin molecule ( s 20, w 0 = 99·7S) underwent partial dissociation into one-half molecules ( s 20, w 0 = 63·0S ...

Using the Biotic Ligand Model framework to investigate binary metal interactions on the uptake of Ag, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in the freshwater snail Lymnaea stagnalis.

Science of the Total Environment, 2019
There is growing interest in the development of mechanistically-based models, such as the Biotic Ligand Model (BLM), for assessing the environmental risk of metal mixtures.

A neuronal network from the mollusc Lymnaea stagnalis

Brain Research, 1994
The morphology, electrophysiology, and synaptic inputs of a ventrally located neuronal network from the CNS of the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis was investigated. Three large, previously identified neurons [55] known as right parietal ventral one, two, and three (RPV1,2,&3) were found to be electrically coupled to one another.

Fixed phagocytes in the freshwater snail Lymnaea stagnalis

Cell and Tissue Research, 1979
Morphological and histochemical examination of the blood and connective tissue of the freshwater snail Lymnaea stagnalis injected with various types of foreign particulate materials has shown the existence of free as well as fixed phagocytic cells. The morphology of the fixed phagocytes is described, and the phagocytic system of the snail is compared ...
