The evolving role of lymphatics in cancer metastasis
Current Opinion in Immunology, 2018While the link between the lymphatic system and the metastatic spread of cancer is centuries old, understanding of the underlying mechanisms is still evolving. Lymphatic vessels provide a route for tumour cells to reach regional lymph nodes (LNs), which is prognostic of distant organ metastasis and poor survival. However, genomic analyses of metastatic

The Lymphatics: On the Route to Cancer Metastasis
2011The blood vascular and lymphatic systems are necessary for the flux of gases, liquids, nutrients, signaling molecules, and cells among tissues and organs. These two highly branched, treelike networks are interconnected through the largest lymphatic vessel, the thoracic duct, which drains lymph, the protein-rich interstitial fluid, into the blood ...

The Pathobiology of Metastasis Within the Lymphatic System
Surgical Oncology Clinics of North America, 1996This article focuses on the pathobiology of lymphatic metastases. The dynamics of metastasis within the lymphatic system are reviewed. Topics discussed include lymphatic channels, lymphati-covenous communication, metastatic inefficiency (which is a driving force in many aspects of the pathobiology of metastasis), and lymphogenous and hematogenous ...

The Lymphatic System in Breast Cancer Metastasis
2021The leading cause of breast cancer-associated death is metastasis. During metastasis, tumor cells metastasize from primary tumors to distant organs via the circulatory and lymphatic systems. However, in 80% of solid tumors, metastasis via the lymphatic system precedes metastasis via the vascular system.

An experimental model for lymphatic metastasis in rats.
Gan, 1976An experimental model was described for inducing spontaneous lymph node metastasis, in which tumor cells of the rat ascites hepatoma AH-109A were transplanted into the subcutaneous tissue of the penis, which is rich of lymph plexus. Growth of tumor at the site of transplantation was measured serially and metastasis was recognized by palpation in the ...

Historical Data on the Dynamics of Lymphatic Metastasis
Oncology, 1972A systematic survey of pre-20th century literature on metastasis to lymphatic tissues is presented under the five dynamic phases of liberation, transportation, deposition, establishment and growth ...

[Recent advances on lymphangiogenesis and lymphatic metastasis].
Zhonghua bing li xue za zhi = Chinese journal of pathology,

Role of the lymphatics in cancer metastasis and chemotherapy applications
Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 2011The lymphatic system was first described centuries ago. The recent discovery of various molecular markers has allowed for more in-depth research of the lymphatic system and its role in health and disease. The lymphatic system has recently been elucidated as playing an active role in cancer metastasis.
