Update: Peripheral T-Cell Lymphomas
Current Hematologic Malignancy Reports, 2011Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs) are a group of biologically heterogeneous but typically aggressive diseases. Progress in understanding and developing optimal therapies for PTCLs has been hampered by disease rarity and only relatively recent recognition of the importance of the T-cell phenotype.

Pathobiology of Peripheral T-cell Lymphomas
Hematology, 2006AbstractPeripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTLs) are uncommon, accounting for fewer than 10% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Success in therapy of the PTLs has lagged behind that of aggressive B-cell lymphomas, and most PTLs have a poor prognosis. The molecular pathogenesis of most PTLs is also poorly understood.

Nodal peripheral T cell lymphomas (TCL) are rare entities with poor prognosis including ALK+ and ALK- systemic anaplastic T-cell lymphoma (ALCL), angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma and peripheral T cell lymphoma – not otherwise specified. The role of PET in TCL is less well established compared to other lymphoma entities.

We report three cases of malignant T cell lymphoma of peripheral T lymphocyte origin. This morphological entity was first described by Lennert and Waldron. The diagnosis based on morphological criteria only is difficult because of the many lymphoid malignancies.

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs) account for about 12% of all lymphoid neoplasms in Western Countries. They show an endemic prevalence in some geographic areas, including southern Japan, Caribbean Basin, and regions of Mexico and USA, where they are related to HTVL1 infection.1 PTCLs can be roughly subdivided into specified and not otherwise ...
