Immunologically Produced Lymphopenia
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1965IN 1899, Metchnikoff1first produced a leukocytotoxic serum by injecting spleen and lymph node emulsion from rats and guinea pigs into rabbits. Woodruff,2Waksman,3and Hume4employing rabbit antirat or anti guinea pig lymphocytic serum found that lymphopenia could be produced by in vivo administration of this antiserum. Since the production of lymphopenia

Interleukin-7 (IL-7) is a growth and anti-apoptotic factor for T-lymphocytes, with potential for clinical use in the treatment of immunodeficiencies due to loss of T-cells. Lymphopenia induced by disease (HIV infection, hemodialysis or Idiopathic CD4+ lymphopenia) or by treatment (high dose chemotherapy or depleting antibodies) for cancer or auto ...

Lymphopenia in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 1989Lymphopenia is a recognized but poorly studied feature of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We set out to establish the prevalence and significance of lymphopenia in RA. A group of 66 RA patients was studied for one year. During this time 10 (15%) had persistent lymphopenia (lymphocyte count less than 1.00 X 10(9)/l) without evidence of Felty's syndrome.

Pretreatment peripheral blood lymphocyte counts have been recorded in 181 consecutive untreated patients with histologically proven Hodgkin's disease and the patients followed prospectively to determine the relationship of lymphopenia to survival. Lymphocyte counts at presentation did not correspond with histology type but were lower in stage 4 disease.

Idiopathic CD4 lymphopenia is a rare disorder of unknown etiology. It has a broad array of presentations, ranging from asymptomatic individuals to cases of recurrent severe opportunistic infections. Diagnostic criteria include persistent CD4 T-cell lymphopenia with no underlying primary or secondary immunodeficiency and a T-cell count

Lymphopenia in histiocytic medullary reticulosis
Clinical & Laboratory Haematology, 2008A survey of the Western literature of histiocytic medullary reticulosis (malignant histiocytosis) provided 104 case reports with sufficient data from which the presence or absence of an absolute lymphopenia could be ascertained. Of these, 46 (44%) were lymphopenic at presentation or within the subsequent 10 days.

Lymphopenia in primary degenerative dementia
Journal of Psychiatric Research, 1989The central nervous and immune systems share a number of common properties, e.g. neurotransmitter receptors. In contrast to age matched healthy and/or hypertensive controls, the total lymphocyte count in 25 carefully diagnosed and staged patients with primary degenerative dementia were significantly reduced and also correlated with the severity of ...

Lymphopenia and breast metastasis
International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1977Although an immune response against breast cancer in the human is a fact its clinical importance in the outcome of the disease remains speculative. Since the immune system may limit disease progression somewhat the treatment given to the patient should not eradicate this response.

Testosterone induces lymphopenia in turtles
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 1991Owing to the possible role of sex steroids in the immune-neuroendocrine interactions found in lower vertebrates, we attempted to delineate the effect of testosterone propionate on peripheral blood (PB) and the lymphoid organs of the turtle Mauremys caspica.
