Forest conversion into pasture selects dung beetle traits at different biological scales depending on species pool composition

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Briefly, we assess the impacts of forest conversion on the functional diversity of dung beetles in two different regions of Brazil, considering in particular intraspecific variation. To do this we conducted standardized surveys in seven forest fragments and adjacent pastures for every region and measured fourteen traits in individuals collected in each

Absence of myofibrillar myopathy in Quarter Horses with a histopathological diagnosis of type 2 polysaccharide storage myopathy and lack of association with commercial genetic tests

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 55, Issue 2, Page 230-238, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Genetic tests for variants in MYOT (P2; rs1138656462), FLNC (P3a; rs1139799323 or P3b; rs1142918816) and MYOZ3 (P4; rs1142544043) genes are offered commercially to diagnose myofibrillar myopathy (MFM) and type 2 polysaccharide storage myopathy (PSSM2) in Quarter Horses (QH).

Modelling ecological communities when composition is manipulated experimentally

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 2, Page 696-707, February 2023., 2023
Abstract In an experimental setting, the composition of ecological communities can be manipulated directly. Starting from a pool of n species, it is possible to co‐culture species in different combinations, ranging from monocultures, to pairs, and all the way up to the full species pool.

Caregiver burden, treatment complexity, and the veterinarian–client relationship in owners of dog with skin disease

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 208-213, June 2022., 2022
Background – Increasing complexity of treatment plans is associated with higher levels of caregiver burden in owners of dogs with skin disease. It is possible that elevated caregiver burden resulting from treatment complexity could, in turn, affect the veterinarian–client relationship.

Changes in severity and impact of drooling after submandibular gland botulinum neurotoxin A injections in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 354-362, March 2020., 2020
Aims To examine changes in objective and subjective drooling severity measures after submandibular botulinum neurotoxin A injection in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, explore their relationship, and evaluate if clinically relevant responses relate to changes in the impact of drooling.

Upper limb impairments, process skills, and outcome in children with unilateral cerebral palsy

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 61, Issue 9, Page 1080-1086, September 2019., 2019
Aim To examine the relationships between upper limb impairments and independence in self‐care (ISC) in children with unilateral cerebral palsy (CP). Method One hundred and eight children with unilateral CP (46 females, 62 males; mean age 8y 7mo, SD 3y 9mo) recruited from a population register were assessed for upper limb muscle power, spasticity ...

Aspects of Toxoplasma Infection on the Reproductive System of Experimentally Infected Rams (Ovis Aries)

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2009, Issue 1, 2009., 2009
Eight reproductive rams with no prior reproductive disease were distributed into three groups of infection with T. gondii: GI, 3 rams, 2.0 × 105 P strain oocysts; GII, 3 rams, 1.0 × 106 RH strain tachyzoites; GIII, 2 control rams. Clinical parameters were measured and serological evaluations (IIF) were performed.
