Balancing clusters to reduce response time variability in large scale image search [PDF]
Many algorithms for approximate nearest neighbor search in high-dimensional spaces partition the data into clusters. At query time, in order to avoid exhaustive search, an index selects the few (or a single) clusters nearest to the query point.

Asymptotic properties of cross‐classified sampling designs
Abstract We investigate the family of cross‐classified sampling designs across an arbitrary number of dimensions. We introduce a variance decomposition that enables the derivation of general asymptotic properties for these designs and the development of straightforward and asymptotically unbiased variance estimators.

Jules Vuillemin : de la méthode cartésienne à la méthode structurale
I studied the structural method defined by Vuillemin in La Philosophie de l’algèbre and the origins of this method by considering the fourth rule of the Discours de la méthode and its interpretation given by Vuillemin in Mathématiques et métaphysique ...

Un environnement formel d'assistance à la modélisation de protocoles [PDF]
The use of protocol design toolkits based on UML profiles has been hampered by the lack of methodological support. Indeed, those toolkits should include an assistant based on patterns and dedicated to driving the designer step by step through a well ...

Partial identification with categorical data and nonignorable missing outcomes
Abstract Nonignorable missing outcomes are common in real‐world datasets and often require strong parametric assumptions to achieve identification. These assumptions can be implausible or untestable, and so we may wish to forgo them in favour of partially identified models that narrow the set of a priori possible values to an identification region.

Bayesian inverse ensemble forecasting for COVID‐19
Abstract Variations in strains of COVID‐19 have a significant impact on the rate of surges and on the accuracy of forecasts of the epidemic dynamics. The primary goal for this article is to quantify the effects of varying strains of COVID‐19 on ensemble forecasts of individual “surges.” By modelling the disease dynamics with an SIR model, we solve the ...

Abstract Background Culture protocols need to yield 100 million equine synovial fluid (SF)‐derived mesenchymal stromal cells (SF‐MSCs) in around 3 weeks are needed, before these cells can be evaluated as agents of articular repair in clinical trials. Objectives To investigate mass culture of equine SF‐MSC culture protocols using nonwoven polyethylene ...
