The manuscript presents a methodology to calibrate a random field using scarce and sparse data on an irregular grid. The methodology is used to assess random fluctuations in the bare carrying capacity of bats in Africa. These results are useful to model the zoonotic niche of many zoonotic diseases, such as Ebola.
