Spatiotemporal Distribution of Cattle Dung Patches in a Subtropical Soybean-Beef System under Different Grazing Intensities in Winter

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
Cattle dung distribution in pastoral ecosystems is uneven and affects nutrient availability to plants. Thus, identifying its spatiotemporal patterns is crucial to understanding the mechanisms underlying the system functioning.

Desempenho de forrageiras hibernais sob distintos níveis de luminosidade Performance of hibernal forages under distinct brightness levels

Comum, aveia-branca (Avena sativa L.) cv. Fapa

Discrete Pulses of Cooler Deep Water Can Decelerate Coral Bleaching During Thermal Stress: Implications for Artificial Upwelling During Heat Stress Events

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2020
Global warming is considered to be the most severe threat to coral reefs globally, which makes it important for scientists to develop novel strategies that mitigate the impact of warming on corals and associated habitats.

Soil fertility and agriculture yield with the application of organomineral or mineral fertilizers in solid and fluid forms [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2018
: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of organomineral and mineral fertilizers, in their solid and fluid forms, on soils with variable charges with high fertility built up from nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium contents in the soil ...

Carbon in aggregate size classes in a Rhodic Eutrudox under different cropping systems

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2019
Soil productive capacity is related to levels of carbon (C) in aggregates of different sizes. The aim of this study was to assess total organic carbon levels in different size classes of water-stable aggregates in a Rhodic Eutrudox under different ...

Oxygen consumption from air and water, ammonia and urea‐N excretion, and Na+ fluxes during progressive aquatic hypoxia in Amazonian armoured catfish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps and Pterygoplichthys pardalis

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Amazonian loricariid fish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, from the Rio Negro, and Pterygoplichthys pardalis, from the Rio Solimões, are facultative air‐breathers that can use the stomach as an air‐breathing organ. Measurement of oxygen uptake under progressive aquatic hypoxia revealed a relatively high hypoxia resistance of both species.

Bacterial acquisition in juveniles of several broadcast spawning coral species. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
Coral animals harbor diverse microorganisms in their tissues, including archaea, bacteria, viruses, and zooxanthellae. The extent to which coral-bacterial associations are specific and the mechanisms for their maintenance across generations in the ...

Nitrogen excretion and oxygen consumption under severe hypoxia in siluriform fishes from the Amazon

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Siluriform fishes collected from the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões proved to be highly resistant to aquatic hypoxia. In all four species analysed in this study, aquatic oxygen consumption significantly decreased from normoxic levels at water PO2 values near 1 kPa. Air‐breathing activity was observed only in Sturisoma sp. (Rio Negro).
