Quantified Morphology of HI Disks in the Universe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
he upcoming new perspective of the high redshift Universe in the 21 cm line of atomic hydrogen opens possibilities to explore topics of spiral disk evolution, hitherto reserved for the optical regime.

Finite size scaling in CP(N-1) models

open access: yes, 1993
Finite size effects in Euclidean ${\rm CP}^{N-1}$ models with periodic boundary conditions are investigated by means of the $1/N$ expansion and by Monte Carlo simulations.

The Effect of Mass Ratio on the Morphology and Time-scales of Disc Galaxy Mergers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The majority of galaxy mergers are expected to be minor mergers. The observational signatures of minor mergers are not well understood, thus there exist few constraints on the minor merger rate.

Detection of Leptospira in cane toads (Rhinella jimi) from urban and rural Paraíba, Brazil

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Leptospirosis is a significant zoonosis in tropical regions, where poor sanitation and favourable climate aid its spread. Synanthropic animals such as the cane toad (Rhinella jimi), which share environments with both people and wild and domestic animals, may harbour Leptospira and contribute to urban and rural transmission cycles ...

Low-energy couplings of QCD from topological zero-mode wave functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
By matching 1/m^2 divergences in finite-volume two-point correlation functions of the scalar or pseudoscalar densities with those obtained in chiral perturbation theory, we derive a relation between the Dirac operator zero-mode eigenfunctions at fixed ...

Generation cycles in experimental populations of a multivoltine insect

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Although theory suggests various mechanisms by which environmental and ecological factors may drive generational fluctuations, our field‐cage experiment is the first to demonstrate how internal dynamics and external disturbances jointly produce synchronised, large‐scale outbreak cycles.

Isolation of a Premycorrhizal Infection (pmi2) Mutant of Tomato, Resistant to Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal Colonization

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, 2003
Arbuscular mycorrhizae (AM) represent an ancient symbiosis between mycorrhizal fungi and plant roots which co-evolved to exhibit a finely tuned, multistage interaction that assists plant growth. Direct screening efforts for Myc¯ plant mutants resulted in

Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Pauli-Villars Regularization in nonperturbative Hamiltonian approach on the Light Front

open access: yes, 2015
The advantage of Pauli-Villars regularization in quantum field theory quantized on the light front is explained. Simple examples of scalar $\lambda\varphi^4$ field theory and Yukawa-type model are used.

Mediation of Polygenic Asthma Risk Through Gene Expression

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
We apply published PRSs in African‐ancestry individuals and quantify the extent to which the PRS‐asthma relationship is mediated by clinical biomarkers and gene‐expression signatures of asthma. We found the best PRS to be the one derived using the largest sample size and including African‐ancestry individuals.
