Everyday understandings of drone incidents and misuse in the Mass Observation Archive

open access: yesThe Geographical Journal, Volume 191, Issue 2, June 2025.
Short Abstract As drones increasingly feature in everyday airspace, so too do concerns grow about drone incidents and misuse. Drawing on the development of a Mass Observation Archive directive and the testimony of correspondents, this article at once explores everyday stories of drone incidents and misuse and brings drone geographies into novel ...

On the Circle Covering Theorem by A. W. Goodman and R. E. Goodman [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In 1945, A. W. Goodman and R. E. Goodman proved the following conjecture by P. Erd\H{o}s: Given a family of (round) disks of radii $r_1$, $\ldots$, $r_n$ in the plane it is always possible to cover them by a disk of radius $R = \sum r_i$, provided they ...

Vocal biomarkers correlate with FEV1 variations during methacholine challenge

open access: yesClinical and Translational Allergy, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Background Mobile health applications are increasingly valued for their role in asthma management and the opportunity for large dataset collection. Our study aimed to investigate the feasibility of applying signal‐processing and machine‐learning technologies to detect alterations in the lower airway caliber and develop a machine‐learning ...

Computational modeling of reinforced concrete dapped‐end beams

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 11, Page 1545-1576, 30 April 2025.
Abstract The structural response of reinforced concrete dapped‐end beams is simulated through finite element analysis. The case study consists in experimental tests performed in the framework of an Italian research project on bridges. The study assesses both the local and global behavior of the beam and characterizes the damage patterns.

Comprehensive Study on Synthesis, Quantum Chemical Calculations, Molecular Modeling Studies, and Cytotoxic Activities of Metal(II) Schiff Base Complexes

open access: yesApplied Organometallic Chemistry, Volume 39, Issue 3, March 2025.
Mononuclear complexes of a diimine molecule were synthesized, and their structures were elucidated. The cytotoxic activity properties of compounds were screened in cancer cell lines. The optimized molecular geometries, molecular electrostatic potential diagrams, total density of states plots, and frontier molecular orbitals of compounds at the ground ...

Sampling Colourings of the Triangular Lattice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We show that the Glauber dynamics on proper 9-colourings of the triangular lattice is rapidly mixing, which allows for efficient sampling. Consequently, there is a fully polynomial randomised approximation scheme (FPRAS) for counting proper 9-colourings ...

Towards liminal balance: Unpacking the UK's urban canal space

open access: yesTransactions of the Institute of British Geographers, Volume 50, Issue 1, March 2025.
Short Abstract This paper explores the liminal geographies of the UK's canal network. It highlights critical intersections between liminality and scale and examines ongoing spatial entanglements. The findings underscore the importance of preserving urban canals as liminal spaces, promoting recreation and urban wellbeing, and advocate for maintaining a ...
