An Investigation of Disk Thickness in M51 from Hα, Paα, and Mid-infrared Power Spectra

Astrophysical Journal
Power spectra (PS) of high-resolution images of M51 (NGC 5194) taken with the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have been examined for evidence of disk thickness in the form of a change in slope between large scales, which ...

The young stellar clusters in M51 and the impact of GMC encounters

Monthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society
We investigate the young stellar cluster population of M51 and how it is affected by encounters with giant molecular clouds (GMCs). We combine a galactic model with N-body simulations of 5000 unique clusters in the mass range [600 − 24000] M⊙.

The SWAN view of dense gas in the Whirlpool. A cloud-scale comparison of N2H+, HCO+, HNC, and HCN emission in M51

Astronomy & Astrophysics
Tracing dense molecular gas, the fuel for star formation, is essential for understanding the evolution of molecular clouds and star-formation processes.

On the Nature of Spiral Arms in the Interacting Galaxy M51

Astronomy reports (Print)
In this study, we investigated the radial variation of the azimuthal propagation of star formation across the spiral arms in the nearby galaxy NGC 5194 (M51a) by analysing the spatial separation between young star clusters and their nearest H II regions.

Exploratory Data Analysis Of The Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) And Ngc (5195) Through Image Processing And Astrophysical Techniques

2024 2nd International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Applications Theme: Healthcare and Internet of Things (AIMLA)
This work explores the gravitational interactions between NGC 5195 and the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) by using Astropy for advanced image processing and exploratory data analysis (EDA) in the Python environment.

Possibile pianeta extragalattico in M51

2021
grande come Saturno.

Molecular spiral arms in M51

2008
The controversy surrounding the delineation of molecular spiral structure in the Galaxy emphasizes that spiral structure can best be understood by observing external galaxies with high angular resolution. M51, the galaxy in which spiral structure was first discerned, is the obvious galaxy to observe. Lo et al.

MPEC 2023-M51 : 2018 MY6

2023
The Minor Planet Electronic Circulars contain information on unusual minor planets, routine data on comets and natural satellites, and occasional editorial announcements. They are published on behalf of Division F of the International Astronomical Union by the Minor Planet Center, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A.

Dynamical Status of M51

1990
M51 enjoys a special place in the history of observational astronomy. It was the first galaxy observed to have spiral structure, by Lord Rosse in 1845 using the 72-inch reflector at Burr Castle. Over a century later, M51 became the first galaxy outside the Local Group to be mapped extensively at radio wavelengths by Mathewson, van der Kruit, and Brouw [

Molecular Spiral Structure in M51

1990
We present a mosaic map of M51 in the 12CO 1→0 line made with the Owens Valley mm-interferometer. The molecular arms we see are narrow and show an offset relative to the Ha emission. They also show coincidence with the dust lanes. Several interarm emission regions have also been detected, but with very little accompanying Ha emission.
