Gynecologic pathology in the Macaca mulatta

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1970
Abstract A review of gynecologic pathology in the Macaca mulatta (rhesus) monkey reveals a glaring lack of information in this popular laboratory species. Accordingly, the reproductive tracts of a large group of females were examined to provide information on the type and prevalence of gynecologic pathology.

Electrophoretic Patterns of Macaca mulatta and Macaca nemestrina Hybrid Hæmoglobin

Nature, 1963
VARIATIONS in the electrophoretic mobilities of haemoglobin have been described in many species of sub-human primates1–6. A colony of 524 Macaca mulatta and 13 Macaca nemestrina was surveyed for haemoglobin types by filter paper electrophoresis. Two animals within the group had physical characteristics which combined features of both M.

Pyrophosphate Arthropathy, Macaca mulatta

1993
Pseudogout is a disease of the joints and intervertebral disc and is associated with chronic degenerative joint disease of primarily the knee articular cartilage and menisci. Cartilage changes are characterized by marginal erosion of cartilage, ulceration, fibrillation of articular cartilage and osteophyte formation (Fig. 149).

Reinforced drawing in Macaca mulatta

Journal of Human Evolution, 1976
Abstract Two male Macaca mulatta were trained with food reinforcement to make marks with a crayon on an opaque plastic surface. Both subjects used repetitive arm movements in their drawing. One monkey produced fanlike patterns which have also appeared in the drawings of other primate species, including humans.

Hematogenous Hexamitiasis, Macaca mulatta

1993
No specific gross lesions have been associated with circulating Hexamita in the peripheral blood of the one rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) in which this disorder has been described (Letvin et al. 1984). The animal was treated with metronidazole 2 weeks prior to its death which eliminated the organism from the circulation and the intestinal tract.

Ovarian Teratoma, Macaca mulatta

1993
Three examples of ovarian teratoma in rhesus monkeys are described, two of which have been reported previously (Rohovsky et al. 1977). The first monkey (case 1) had a 4 cm in diameter spherical encapsulated mass with a gray and white mottled surface surrounding the left ovary (Fig. 165).

Cerebral Venous Thrombosis, Macaca mulatta

1993
Cerebral venous thrombosis (Sheffield et al. 1981) occurs in white matter of the cerebral hemispheres of Macaca mulatta as patchy multifocal areas of hemorrhage. Old lesions appear as firm, multifocal, red or tan to brown foci within the subcortical white matter (Fig. 211).

Lymphocyte cultures of Macaca mulatta and Macaca fascicularis.

Laboratory animal science, 1975
Lymphocytes of Macaca mulatta and Macaca fascicularis were cultured using a microculture technic. The use of RPMI-1640 with fetal calf serum as a culture medium and an extra dose of phytohemagglutinin produced excellent results. Staining of the chromosomes by the Gemsa banding technic did not reveal any differences between the karyotypes of the Macaca ...
