Anesthetic management in intrauterine surgery to evaluate an experimental model of myelomeningocele in non human primates (Macaca mulatta) Anestesia em cirurgia intra-uterina para avaliar um modelo experimental de mielomeningocele em primatas não humanos (Macaca mulatta)

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2010
PURPOSE: Evaluate the anesthetic management in intrauterine surgery to induce myelomeningocele in non human primates Macaca mulatta. METHODS: A total of nine fetuses had intrauterine surgery; laminectomy was performed on them in L5 and L6.

Qualitative and quantitative characterization of the Rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta) penis [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology
Background: Knowledge of the anatomy of laboratory animals is important for experimental research. Erectile dysfunction has been studied using the penises of different laboratory animals such as rats, mice, rabbits, dogs, etc. However, these animals have

Prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex among Wild Rhesus Macaques and 2 Subspecies of Long-Tailed Macaques, Thailand, 2018–2022

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2023
We identified tuberculosis in 1,836 macaques from 6 wild rhesus (Macaca mulatta), 23 common long-tailed (M. fascicularis fascicularis), and 6 Burmese long-tailed (M. fascicularis aurea) macaque populations in Thailand.

Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Respiration in Macaca mulatta (Rhesus Monkey)

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1946
Summary1. The average respiratory rate, tidal air, and minute volume were measured in 39 unanesthetized, untrained, young monkeys (Macaca mulatto,) with an average weight of 2.63 kg (a- = ± 0.41 kg, e= ± 0.07 kg).2. Expressing the tidal air or minute volume in terms of body weight in kilograms, body surface area in square meters, or body weight in ...

Enhanced Glycolysis‐Driven Histone H3K18 Lactylation Regulates Epileptogenesis by Modulating the E3 Ubiquitin Ligase COP1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neuronal PKM2‐driven glycolysis generates excess lactate that triggers histone H3K18 lactylation (H3K18la), establishing a pathogenic metabolic‐epigenetic axis in epilepsy. Elevated H3K18la enriches the Cop1 promoter, transcriptionally upregulating the E3 ubiquitin ligase COP1, which subsequently drives proteasomal degradation of GABAARβ2 and impairs ...

Monkey Bites among US Military Members, Afghanistan, 2011

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2012
Bites from Macaca mulatta monkeys, native to Afghanistan, can cause serious infections. To determine risk for US military members in Afghanistan, we reviewed records for September–December 2011. Among 126 animal bites and exposures, 10 were monkey bites.
