Evolutionary Changes in Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) and Related Traits During the Diversification of Aichryson (Crassulaceae) on the Macaronesian Islands. [PDF]
We explore evolutionary changes in Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) and associated traits during the diversification of Aichryson (Crassulaceae) across the Macaronesian Islands. By combining field data, physiological measurements and phylogenetic analysis, we identify shifts in photosynthetic strategy linked to habitat transitions.

Parallel evolution of arborescent carrots (Daucus) in Macaronesia [PDF]
PremiseDespite intensive research, the pathways and driving forces behind the evolution of derived woodiness on oceanic islands remain obscure. The genus Daucus comprises mostly herbs (therophytes, hemicryptophytes) with few rosette treelets (chamaephytes) endemic to various Macaronesian archipelagos, suggesting their independent evolution.
