Assessing metacognitive skills in waking and sleep: A psychometric analysis of the metacognitive, affective, cognitive experience (MACE) questionnaire [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Metacognition, Affective, Cognitive Experience (MACE) questionnaire was designed to assess metacognition across sleep and waking (Kahan & LaBerge, 1996). The present research evaluates the psychometric properties of the MACE.

Superionic Amorphous Li2ZrCl6 and Li2HfCl6

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous Li2HfCl6 and L2ZrCl6 are shown to be promising solid‐state electrolytes with predicted ionic conductivities >20 mS·cm−1. Molecular dynamics simulations with machine‐learning force fields reveal that anion vibrations and flexible MCl6 octahedra soften the Li coordination cage and enhance mobility. Correlation between Li‐ion diffusivity and the

Generative Models for Crystalline Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Generative machine learning models are increasingly used in crystalline materials design. This review outlines major generative approaches and assesses their strengths and limitations. It also examines how generative models can be adapted to practical applications, discusses key experimental considerations for evaluating generated structures, and ...

Warming alters plankton body-size distributions in a large field experiment

open access: yesCommunications Biology
The threat of climate change has renewed interest in the responses of communities and ecosystems to warming, with changes in size spectra expected to signify fundamental shifts in the structure and dynamics of these multispecies systems.

Wolf 1130: A Nearby Triple System Containing a Cool, Ultramassive White Dwarf [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Following the discovery of the T8 subdwarf WISEJ200520.38+542433.9 (Wolf 1130C), with common proper motion to a binary (Wolf 1130AB) consisting of an M subdwarf and a white dwarf, we set out to learn more about the old binary in the system.

Postoperative Stress Accelerates Atherosclerosis Through Inflammatory Remodeling of the HDL Proteome and Impaired Reverse Cholesterol Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study shows that noncardiac surgical inflammation rapidly disrupts HDL function and cholesterol efflux in mice and human patients. Impaired reverse cholesterol transport after surgery drives rapid lipid accumulation, NETosis, and apoptosis within atherosclerotic plaques.

Evaluation of the Atherogenic Index of Plasma in the Prognostic Value of Ischemic Heart Failure Post-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine
Background: The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) is calculated as the logarithm of the triglyceride (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio.

Rotor Unbalance Estimation with Reduced Number of Sensors

open access: yesMachines, 2016
The most common cause of the excessive vibration in rotating machines is the rotor mass unbalance. If a machine vibration due to mass unbalance exceeds the alarm limits, then it may lead to machine failure.
