Investigation of D‐Shape Plastic Optical Fiber Towards Ethanol Concentration

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
A d‐shaped plastic optical fiber (POF) sensor coated with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was developed for real‐time ethanol concentration detection. The d‐shaped sensing region enhances evanescent‐field interaction with the surrounding ethanol solution, while the CNT coating further improves light–matter interaction and ethanol adsorption.

Beating the Standard Quantum Limit With Single‐Photon‐Added Coherent States

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, Volume 5, Issue 10, October 2026.
The standard quantum limit (SQL) defines how quantum fluctuations of light constrain measurement precision. Here, we show that injecting a single‐photon‐added coherent state and a weak coherent state in the input ports of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer reduces phase uncertainty below the SQL.

Integrated Photonic Modulator Circuit With Programmable Intensity and Phase Modulation Response

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 19, 7 October 2026.
A platform‐agnostic programmable modulation circuit is introduced to enable tunable and universal optimization of integrated photonic modulators. By flexibly controlling carrier amplitude and phase, the approach adapts to diverse device characteristics without structural redesign.

Influence of thermal isolating grooves on the performance of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer-type thermo-optic variable optical attenuator

open access: yes, 2005
Two types of silicon-on-insulator thermo-optic variable optical attenuators (VOAs) based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer and a multimode-interference coupler are fabricated, one with thermal isolating grooves to improve heating efficiency and the other ...

Field Mach-Zehnder Interferometer for Heat-Transfer Studies

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 1968
The use of interferometry for heat transfer studies enables a complete field of view to be quantitatively examined at one time without disturbing the temperature distribution being measured.

Ultra-Abrupt Tapered Fiber Mach-Zehnder Interferometer Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2011
A fiber inline Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) consisting of ultra-abrupt fiber tapers was fabricated through a new fusion-splicing method. By fusion-splicing, the taper diameter-length ratio is around 1:1, which is much greater than those (1:10) made ...

Comb‐Driven Coherent Optical Transmitter for Scalable DWDM Interconnects

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 19, 7 October 2026.
A comb‐driven coherent optical transmitter on a Si/SiN platform enables scalable DWDM interconnects by integrating ultra‐compact microring‐assisted modulators and interleavers. High‐baud coherent signaling achieves 400 Gb/s per wavelength and >$>$1 Tb/s multi‐channel transmission, with projected >$>$10 Tb/s per fiber, offering a path toward energy ...

The use of a fiber comb filter fabricated by a CO2 laser irradiation to improve the resolution of a ratiometric wavelength measurement system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An edge filter based ratiometric wavelength measurement system is modelled and analysed in this paper. The results confirm that the noise of input signal and photodetectors limit the resolution of the wavelength measurement system.

Femtosecond‐Laser‐Inscribed Cladding Fiber Bragg Gratings: Architectures, Design Trade‐Offs and Future Sensing Opportunities

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 19, 7 October 2026.
Femtosecond‐laser inscription enables precise positioning of fiber Bragg gratings within the cladding, introducing new spatial and modal design freedoms. Auxiliary‐waveguide, near‐core evanescent‐field, and direct cladding‐mode‐excitation architectures provide complementary pathways toward multiparameter, vector, distributed, and environmentally ...
