Study of Mach Number Effect for 2D Co-flow Jet Airfoil at Cruise Conditions

AIAA Aviation 2019 Forum, 2019
This paper studies the Mach number effect on cruise performance for a 2D Co-Flow Jet (CFJ) airfoil at freestream Mach number of 0.15, 0.30, 0.46 and 0.5. The optimized 2D CFJ airfoil, CFJ6421-SST150-SUC247INJ117 is redesigned by enlarging the size of the

Prediction of Reynolds stresses in high-Mach-number turbulent boundary layers using physics-informed machine learning

Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics, 2018
Modeled Reynolds stress is a major source of model-form uncertainties in Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulations. Recently, a physics-informed machine learning (PIML) approach has been proposed for reconstructing the discrepancies in RANS ...

The Active Flux Scheme on Cartesian Grids and Its Low Mach Number Limit

Journal of Scientific Computing, 2018
Finite volume schemes for hyperbolic conservation laws require a numerical intercell flux. In one spatial dimension the numerical flux can be successfully obtained by solving (exactly or approximately) Riemann problems that are introduced at cell ...

Spectra and Mach number scaling in compressible homogeneous shear turbulence

The Physics of Fluids, 2018
The effects of Mach number on the spectra and statistics of stationary compressible homogeneous shear turbulence (HST) are studied using numerical simulations in a rectangular domain (Lx = 4π, Ly = Lz = 2π) at turbulent Mach numbers from 0.05 to 0.66 and

All Mach Number Second Order Semi-implicit Scheme for the Euler Equations of Gas Dynamics

Journal of Scientific Computing, 2017
This paper presents an asymptotic preserving (AP) all Mach number finite volume shock capturing method for the numerical solution of compressible Euler equations of gas dynamics. Both isentropic and full Euler equations are considered.

On vortex sound at low Mach number

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1978
A transformation is described which relates the sound generated by low Mach number flow to the flow vorticity. For compact flow fields the apparent sound source is of quadrupole type and linear in the vorticity and therefore also linear in the flow velocity.

The Speed of Sound and Mach Number Effects

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1963
In most aerodynamic problems the speed of sound, a, is naturally taken as or where p, ρ and T are static values, γ is the specific heat ratio and R is the gas constant. This particular speed, however, is specifically that of plane waves advancing uniformly into an infinite expanse of a homogeneous medium.
