Neoichnology and sediment distribution in tidal flats of the mud‐dominated mesotidal Mira River estuary (Portugal)

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 72, Issue 7, Page 2201-2238, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Invertebrate burrow morphologies and distributions are presented for the tidal flats of the middle and lower reaches of the tide‐influenced (mesotidal), mud‐dominated Mira River estuary (SW Portugal) as an analogue for interpreting the ichnology of palaeoestuarine successions.

Assessing the impact of beach nourishment on the intertidal food web through the development of a mechanistic-envelope model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
1. Beach nourishment, the placement of sand onto a sediment-starved stretch of coast, is widely applied as a soft coastal protection measure because of its reduced ecological impact relative to hard coastal protection.

A continuous 500‐year sediment record of inundation by local and distant tsunamis in South‐Central Chile (40.1°S)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 5, Page 1285-1310, November 2025.
Tsunami events over the past 500 years inundated Laguna Gemela West (Chile), leading to distinct sandy deposits in the lake record. This provides a complete perspective on tsunami inundation, including giant tsunamis, small local tsunamis and tsunamis that originated >100 km away from the site.

Nonnative macrobenthos in the Wadden Sea ecosystem [PDF]

open access: yesOcean & Coastal Management, 2012
An inventory in the Dutch-German-Danish Wadden Sea revealed a total of 66 nonnative (alien) taxa including 17 tentative cryptogenics in the brackish-marine macrobenthos until 2010, which is close to average compared with similar inventories from other coasts.

A Baseline of Fish Species Richness Through eDNA Metabarcoding in an Understudied Tropical Mangrove Coast of Java, Indonesia

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 6, November–December 2025.
This study demonstrates the use of environmental DNA metabarcoding of fish in a highly diverse but poorly described tropical mangrove ecosystem along the North coast of Java, Indonesia. Our results indicate eDNA metabarcoding can capture temporal differences and provide a baseline for fish diversity for future (eDNA metabarcoding) biodiversity studies ...

Distribution of intertidal flat macrobenthos in Buntal Bay, Sarawak, Borneo [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2019
The distribution of macrobenthos in the intertidal area of Buntal Bay, Sarawak was studied based on systematic sampling conducted in 2014. This study aimed to determine the intertidal macrobenthic horizontal distribution and their relationship with ...

Hydrologic Connectivity and Secondary Channel Habitat Properties of the Lower Mississippi River, a Large, Meandering River in the Southern USA

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 41, Issue 9, Page 1864-1873, November 2025.
ABSTRACT In large, meandering rivers, much of the instream flow veers around islands through secondary channels (SCs), which often comprise a substantial proportion of a river's longitudinal path. Due to their dissimilar hydrological conditions, within and among themselves and to the main channel (MC), SCs augment habitat diversity and biogeochemical ...

Assessment of the state for macrobenthos on solid grounds in the up per sublittoral in certain areas of Avachinsky Bay impacted by harmful algal bloom in autumn 2020, a year after the natural disaster

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО
Results of a quantitative diving survey of macrobenthos in the Avachinsky Bay at southeastern Kamchatka in October 2021 are presented. The survey was conducted in a year after the harmful algal bloom (HAB) with mass death of marine organisms in certain ...

Status of Benthos and Reef Fish Communities in Pujada Bay, Davao Oriental, Mindanao

open access: yesDavao Research Journal, 2012
Coral reef resources, particularly corals, macrobenthos and reef fish in Pujada Bay in the southeastern coast of Mindanao were assessed in 2002 to determine their status. A one-shot standard survey methods of corals and their associate fish was conducted

Taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional β‐diversity of stream algae is driven by the number of added nutrients and herbivory

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 11, Page 3390-3405, November 2025.
Higher numbers of added nutrients (NAN) in treatment (T) relative to control (C) algal communities (1) and grazing (2) elevated taxonomic/phylogenetic nestedness (βNes) and functional gradient (βGra) components of β‐diversity. Herbivory favoured grazer‐resistant inferior competitors (2).
