Three new species of Macrobiotus (Eutardigrada, Macrobiotidae, tenuis-group) from Tien Shan (Kirghizia) and Spitsbergen

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2007
Illustrated descriptions of Macrobiotus danilovi sp. n., Macrobiotus tenuiformis sp. n. from Tien Shan (Kirghizia) and Macrobiotus voronkovi sp. n. from Spitsbergen are given. These new species belong to the tenuis-group of the genus Macrobiotus. Members

Tardigrades from Iztaccíhuatl Volcano (Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt), with the Description of Minibiotus citlalium sp. nov. (Eutardigrada: Macrobiotidae)

open access: yesDiversity, 2020
The study of tardigrade diversity in Mexico is at early stage of development, to date, 56 extant species have been reported. To identify the tardigrade fauna associated with mosses in the Iztaccíhuatl volcano, we performed a systematic sampling along an ...

The fine structure of the midgut epithelium in Xerobiotus pseudohufelandi (Iharos, 1966) (Tardigrada, Eutardigrada, Macrobiotidae)

open access: yesJournal of Limnology, 2013
The aims of our studies were to describe the ultrastructure of the midgut epithelial cells of the eutardigrade Xerobiotus pseudohufelandi and to determine if there are any differences in the ultrastructure of midgut epithelial cells between males and ...

HotSHOT Extraction Is a Fast, Economical, and Efficient Method for Obtaining Tardigrade gDNA

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Among the main problems in obtaining genomic DNA (gDNA) from small invertebrates such as tardigrades are the low amount of gDNA obtained per specimen, as well as the complexity of steps and number of reagents used for gDNA extraction. For example, the extraction method with chelating resin is the most used as an alternative to commercial kits for ...

New records of tardigrades from Mexico with the description of Paramacrobiotus puma sp. nov. (Eutardigrada: Macrobiotidae)

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad
Five samples of mosses and 2 samples of lichens were collected within the Cantera Oriente, in southern Mexico City. In total, 110 tardigrades and 27 eggs, belonging to 2 orders (Apochela and Parachela), 4 families (Milnesiidae, Hypsibiidae ...

Ecology explains anhydrobiotic performance across tardigrades, but the shared evolutionary history matters more

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 93, Issue 3, Page 307-318, March 2024.
This study offers a novel approach to quantify desiccation (anhydrobiosis) tolerance. It shows that ancestral history (phylogeny), rather than current habitat (ecology), explains most of the considerable interspecific variation in this trait across tardigrades. Abstract Desiccation stress is lethal to most animals.

Integrative taxonomy supports two new species of Macrobiotus (Tardigrada: Eutardigrada: Macrobiotidae) allowing further discussion on the genus phylogeny

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy
In this study, I describe two new species of Macrobiotus based on morphological data collected through light and scanning electron microscopy. Both species are accompanied by DNA sequences from four commonly used molecular markers (18S rDNA, 28S rDNA ...

Integrative description of two new species of the genus Mesobiotus (Eutardigrada, Macrobiotoidea) from Russia, with an updated phylogeny of the genus

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy
In this study, we describe two new species of Mesobiotus based on morphological data collected through light and scanning electron microscopy. Descriptions include DNA sequences of four commonly used molecular markers (18S rDNA, 28S rDNA, ITS-2, and COI)

A new Diaforobiotus species (Tardigrada: eutardigrada: richtersiusidae) from the Mexican transition zone, described based on multiple lines of evidence

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal
The genus Diaforobiotus was established to accommodate species formerly assigned to the genus Macrobiotus (family Macrobiotidae), and is now placed within the family Richtersiusidae.
