The Ecology of Microbial Communities Associated with Macrocystis pyrifera. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Kelp forests are characterized by high biodiversity and productivity, and the cycling of kelp-produced carbon is a vital process in this ecosystem.

Macrocystis pyrifera (L.) Ag. in Tasmanian Waters

open access: yesMarine and Freshwater Research, 1954
An account is given of the taxonomy and distribution of Macrocystis in Australian waters, the development of the plant is outlined, and beds on the east coast of Tasmania are described. Measurements of growth indicate that the most rapid elongation of the stipe takes place near the apex, and that a stipe may increase in length at a rate of at least 3.4

The Kelp Macrocystis Pyrifera as Nutritional Supplement for Goats

open access: yesRevista Científica, 2009
The present study was aimed to evaluate Macrocystis pyrifera (MP) meal as a nutritional supplement for goats. There is an increasing interest to look at nutritional alternatives to guarantee a continuous supply of good quality forage for goats, in many

Cambios en la estructura de la asociación de diatomeas Epifitas de Macrocystis pyrifera (L.) C. Ag. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Botanica Mexicana, 2008
Con el objetivo de determinar la estructura de la asociación de diatomeas que colonizan láminas apicales de Macrocystis pyrifera en las costas de la península de Baja California y detectar sus posibles cambios temporales, se recolectaron mensualmente ...

Spatial inference of ancestor locations suggests northern refugia for canopy-forming kelps in the Pacific Northwest. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Population genetic structure in the Pacific Northwest for (a–c) Nereocystis and (d–f) Macrocystis. Summary Pockets of the formerly glaciated Pacific coastline of North America likely remained ice‐free throughout the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). These areas may have served as refugia for terrestrial species, but less is known about their role in the ...

Heat stress induces organelle alterations in Macrocystis pyrifera gametophytes. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Phycol
Abstract Kelp, brown macroalgae in the order Laminariales, provide ecosystem services vital to ocean biodiversity. However, kelp forests worldwide are declining due to abiotic stressors such as ocean warming. In this study, we present results from high‐resolution confocal microscopy and in vivo imaging system imaging using protocols developed to ...

Standardized 16S Meta-Analysis Reveals Consistent Host-Associated Patterns in Laminariales Epiphytic Microbiomes. [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiologyopen
An integrated bioinformatic pipeline combining taxonomic, functional, and network analyses revealed host‐driven structuring of macroalgal microbiomes. Phaeophyceae hosted distinct epiphytic communities enriched in chemoheterotrophy and polysaccharide degradation, highlighting metabolic coupling, keystone taxa, and a standardized framework for ...
