Macrofaunal diversity in the Central Indian Ocean Basin
Biodiversity, 2007Abstract The deep-sea is characterized by four stable physical variables: hydrostatic pressure, temperature, salinity and oxygen. This harsh environment is comprised of diverse benthic faunal groups. Presently these organisms are at threat due to the increasing interest of mankind in the non-living resources and destructive deep-sea fishing practices ...

Aggregate patterns of macrofaunal diversity: An interocean comparison
Global Ecology and Biogeography, 2017AbstractAimWhile geographical patterns of species richness are reasonably well explored for single well‐studied taxa, less is known about aggregate patterns of total richness for major biomes and their environmental correlates. Here we analyse continental‐scale aggregate patterns of macrofaunal diversity for sandy beaches, a dominant habitat along the ...

Macrofaunal biomass distribution on the Canadian Beaufort Shelf
Journal of Marine Systems, 2013Abstract Macrofaunal biomass on the Canadian Beaufort Shelf (CBS) was mapped for major taxa and all showed increased biomass under the upwelling region on the eastern shelf. Stations having elevated biomass were defined as those in the top three of five biomass groups defined by the Jenks criterion of natural breaks, determined as biomass ≥ 143.2 g ...

Recruitment of Corophium volutator into macrofaunal communities
2019The Minas Basin, Bay of Fundy, is an unusual environment with expansive tidal flats and high tidal amplitude (15m). The direct-developing amphipod Corophium volutator is abundant on these tidal flats and are critical food sources for ground feeding fishes and migratory birds.
