DGAG: A Novel Approach That Detects Green Areas With Geolocation From Large‐Scale Satellite Imaging Instance Segmentation and GIS Application

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 28, Issue 8, Page 2742-2762, December 2024.
ABSTRACT Advancements in space exploration and computing have accelerated progress in remote sensing studies, where imaging satellites capture extensive datasets globally, particularly in identifying green areas on agricultural lands essential for monitoring natural resources, promoting sustainable agriculture, and mitigating climate change.

A tale of two end members: Tidal deposits in a semi‐arid, low subsidence, open coastal setting versus a high runoff, high subsidence, restricted environment

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 10, Issue 5, Page 720-747, November 2024.
Tidalites accumulate during all phases of sea‐level change but most probably enter the rock record in settings characterised by high rates of accommodation creation. A comparison of a forced regressive, semi‐arid, open coastal tidal system to a transgressive, humid climate in a restricted tidal environment reveals key similarities and differences in ...

Quantifying Reservoir Heterogeneity Through Outcrop Characterization: 2. Architecture, Lithology, and Permeability Distribution of a Seaward-Stepping Fluvial-Deltaic Sequence, Ferron Sandstone (Cretaceous), Central Utah [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The internal architecture of natural gas reservoirs fundamentally determines gas migration, production efficiency, and the volume of gas unrecovered at abandonment.

Proactive river corridor definition: Recommendations for a process‐based width optimization approach illustrated in the context of the coastal Pacific Northwest

open access: yesWIREs Water, Volume 11, Issue 3, May/June 2024.
A functioning coastal Pacific Northwest river corridor allows naturally functioning floodplain rejuvenation, supports mature forest, and provides robust flood and erosion protection for surrounding land. Minimum adequate corridor width criteria include corridor width > appropriate meander amplitude, no constriction, and <50% confinement.

Statistically derived morphological signatures of large river channels extracted from topo‐bathymetric LiDAR data

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 49, Issue 2, Page 804-820, February 2024.
The translation of DEM into PDF highlights a specific statistical distribution for each river channel configuration. The simplification of the PDF by a Gaussian mixture model allows a segmentation of the river active width into coherent morphological units (main and side channels, bars).

The thickness variability of fluvial cross‐strata as a record of dune disequilibrium and palaeohydrology proxy: A test against channel deposits

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 71, Issue 2, Page 590-618, February 2024.
ABSTRACT Strata produced by fluvial dunes can provide insight into the hydrological regime of ancient rivers. Recent experiments indicate that conditions of disequilibrium between bedforms and formative flows may be inferred from the coefficient of variation of preserved dune cross‐set thickness, suggesting that this quantity may act as a proxy for the

Bedload tracing with RFID tags in gravel‐bed rivers: Review and meta‐analysis after 20 years of field and laboratory experiments

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 49, Issue 1, Page 147-169, January 2024.
A review of field and laboratory radio frequency identification (RFID) bedload tracing experiments is proposed, including a meta‐analysis of data coming from 459 tracer surveys for a total of 125 study sites. RFID tracers open new avenues for exploring fluvial environments prone to rapid bedload dispersion.
