Light absorption by marine macrophytes

Oecologia, 1994
Tissues of 338 marine macrophytes comprising 103 species, collected from the Atlantic, Mediterranean, South China, and Caribbean Seas, and encompassing a broad range in thallus form and pigmentation, were examined to quantify the importance of phylogenetic differences, spectral variability, and plant form and pigment content to account for differences ...

Fate of terbutryn in macrophyte‐free and macrophyte‐containing farm ponds

Weed Research, 1981
Summary:Terbutryn (2‐ethylamino‐4‐(tert‐butylamino)‐6‐methylthio‐s‐triazine) was applied in June 1978, to two farm ponds (A and C) near Winnipeg. Canada, to give 100 μg/l water concentrations. The persistence of the herbicide and its degradation products was monitored over a 61‐week period following application.

Snail herbivory on submerged macrophytes and nutrient release: Implications for macrophyte management

Ecological Engineering, 2009
Abstract Radix swinhoei (H. Adams) is a freshwater snail commonly found in shallow regions of Lake Taihu. This research estimated, based on experiments, the consumption rates of R. swinhoei on three young submerged plants (Vallisneria spiralis, Hydrilla verticillata and Potamogeton malaianus) and its rates of nutrient release. Results showed that the

Macrophyte‐gastropod associations: observations and experiments on macrophyte choice by gastropods

Freshwater Biology, 1985
SUMMARY.The abundance and microdistribution of thirteen gastropod and ten macrophyte species were monitored over 2 years in a 1 ha shallow eutrophic pond near Oxford, England. While areas of allochthonous leaf litter supported a depauperate and nondistinctive gastropod fauna, three different macrophyte habitats supported more diverse and distinctive ...

Modeling Microbial Impact on Macrophyte Debris Decomposition in Macrophyte-Dominated Eutrophic Lakes

Science of The Total Environment
The decomposition of macrophytes plays a crucial role in the nutrient cycles of macrophyte-dominated eutrophication lakes. While research on plant decomposition mechanisms and microbial influences has rapid developed, it is curious that plant decomposition models have remained stagnant at the single-stage model from 50 years ago, without endeavor to ...

Macrophytes of the River Tweed

Transactions of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh, 1975
Summary An account is given of the 5 lichens, 76 bryophytes, 40 angiosperms and the ‘sewage-fungus’ community recorded from a survey of the River Tweed, Scotland, together with historical and environmental data. For most of its length the river water is relatively soft and low in key nutrients, although phosphate levels in the past were probably higher

Macrophytes : ecology of aquatic plants.

2009
Aquatic plants contribute to maintaining key functions and related biodiversity in freshwater ecosystems, and to provide the needs of human societies. The way the ecological niches of macrophytes are determined by abiotic filters and biotic ones is considered.

Responses of aquatic macrophytes to anthropogenic pressures: comparison between macrophyte metrics and indices

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2018
Macrophyte responses to anthropogenic pressures in two rivers of Central Spain were assessed to check if simple metrics can exhibit a greater discriminatory and explanatory power than complex indices at small spatial scales. Field surveys were undertaken during the summer of 2014 (Duraton River) and the spring of 2015 (Tajuña River).
