Micro- and macrostructure of sleep EEG

IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine, 2006
Electroencephalogram (EEG) provides important and unique information about the sleeping brain. Polysomnography was the major method of sleep analysis and the main diagnostic tool in sleep medicine. The standard interpretation of polysomnographic recordings describes their macrostructure in terms of sleep stages, delineated according to R&K scoring ...

Evaluation of macrostructural bone biomechanics

Joint Bone Spine, 2007
Bone fragility can be defined as an increased risk of fractures. Advanced age and bone diseases such as osteoporosis increase the fracture risk. Understanding the effects of osteoporosis and its treatments requires a description of the mechanical behavior of bone tissue.

On the Continuous Evaluation of the Macrostructure of Sleep

2012
Sleep staging is one of the most important tasks on the context of sleep studies. For more than 40 years the gold standard to the characterization of patient’s sleep macrostructure was the set of rules proposed by Rechtschaffen and Kales (R&K) recently modified by AASM rules.

Macrostructure and Microbehavior in a Metropolitan Area

Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design, 1989
Negative externalities generated by the rational actions of individual decisionmakers sometimes have large-scale repercussions on urban structure that backfire on all concerned. Such a situation, involving the externalities of intensive development in low-density areas, was recently addressed by the Los Angeles Planning Department.

Morphology and Macrostructure

1974
The exterior morphology of meteorites recovered soon after fall is generally characterized by flight markings. Meteorites which have maintained a constant orientation during their fall have furrows on their forward surfaces radiating away from the apex. The rear surface is either unmarked or is furrowed, with the wavelength longer and amplitude smaller

The Macrostructure of Mucus Glycoproteins in Solution

1989
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the various models for mucus glycoprotein “macrostructure” (namely, assembly, gross conformation, and heterogeneity) in solution, which have been based on various interpretations of the data provided by various techniques. Native mucus secretions normally contain ∼1% of salts and other dialyzable components, 0.

Macrostructure of geomagnetic bays

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1968
Evidence is presented that suggests that geomagnetic bay disturbances occur in two stages. The onset of each stage is accompanied by a Pi 2 micropulsation; the fact that a Pi 2 occurs almost synchronously over the earth's surface allows the onset of this micropulsation to be used to define the onset of each stage of a bay.

Macrostructure and Linguistic Characterization

2016
In this chapter, the author analyses the House of Cards series as a conventionally structured tale of the modern times, basing her study on Greimas’s actantial model. Sorlin highlights the pragmatic dimension of Greimas’s structure by giving pride of place to the speech acts that determine contractual relations between actants, thus transforming the ...
