Bengal macrothrombocytopenia is not totally an innocuous condition
Blood Cells, Molecules, and Diseases, 2016Inherited macrothrombocytopenia is a subgroup of thrombocytopenias, and is characterised by the presence of giant platelets and decreased platelet count with variable bleeding manifestations. Bengal macrothrombocytopenia is a newly described entity, previously called asymptomatic constitutional macrothrombocytopenia (ACMT), presented with variable ...

Spleen size, stomatocytosis, macrothrombocytopenia, haemoglobin level, white cell count, and abdominal pain episodes were assessed in a coded study of healthy Mediterranean immigrants to Australia. Spleen size was estimated from a length measurement, L, on a standardized plain abdominal radiograph and expressed both as spleen weight and as a spleen ...

Congenital macrothrombocytopenias
Blood Reviews, 2006Congenital macrothrombocytopenias comprise a heterogeneous group of rare disorders, characterized by abnormal giant platelets, thrombocytopenia and bleeding tendency with variable severity. Many of these disorders share common clinical and laboratory features, making accurate diagnosis difficult and patients are often misdiagnosed with and treated for ...

Inherited Macrothrombocytopenias
Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, 2014Inherited macrothrombocytopenias are a clinically heterogeneous group of disorders, many of which cause moderate-to-severe bleeding tendencies in affected individuals, but which remain under-recognized and are frequently misdiagnosed as immune thrombocytopenia purpura. Diagnostic strategies to date have included a predominant phenotypic approach.

A Novel Hereditary Macrothrombocytopenia
Journal of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, 1995A family is described in which macrothrombocytopenia and hearing loss are transmitted in an autosomal-dominant fashion.Several members of the family were studied extensively. Review of blood smears, coagulation studies, platelet function testing, and electron microscopy were performed.

Sitosterolemia's stomatocytosis and macrothrombocytopenia
Blood, 2012![Figure][1] A 47-year-old white male was referred for chronic thrombocytopenia of 80-90 × 109/L and splenomegaly since 1997. He had been treated unsuccessfully, and mistakenly, for immune thrombocytopenia (steroids, rituximab, romiplostim, and anti-D that produced severe hemolysis ...

Platelet kinetics in autosomal dominant macrothrombocytopenia
Journal of Laboratory and Clinical Medicine, 1998A family with autosomal dominant macrothrombocytopenia is described. Despite severe thrombocytopenia, only a moderate hemorrhagic tendency was observed. Kinetic studies revealed a normal platelet survival, normal megakaryocytic numbers, and normal bone marrow responsiveness.

A novel form of macrothrombocytopenia in Akita dogs
Veterinary Clinical Pathology, 2016AbstractBlood samples from 3 unrelated Akita dogs with a common history of persistent macrothrombocytopenia in the absence of clinical bleeding were sent to the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine (AUCVM) Clinical Pathology Laboratory for evaluation.
