Investigations of Possible Low-Level Temperature and Moisture Anomalies During the AMIE Field Campaign on Manus Island [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This document discusses results stemming from the investigation of near-surface temperature and moisture “oddities” that were brought to light as part of the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) Investigation Experiment

Modulation of North Atlantic atmospheric rivers by the Gulf Stream

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Gulf Stream ocean variability plays a key role in modulating atmospheric river (AR) activity over the North Atlantic during winter and spring at monthly time‐scales. Increased ocean heat transport and mesoscale activity in the Gulf Stream are linked to northward shifts in ARs, while stronger surface heat fluxes drive ARs southward.

Deciphering chaos in the Madden-Julian oscillation

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science
The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), having far-reaching impact on Earth’s climate and human society, is an important tropical phenomenon characterized by a typical 30–90-day period in phase evolution.

The role of wind gusts in upper ocean diurnal variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Upper ocean processes play a key role in air-sea coupling, with variability on both short and long time scales. The diurnal cycle associated with diurnal solar insolation and nighttime cooling, may act, along with stochastic wind variability, on upper ...

The Venetian Vernacular Lexicon in Eleventh‐ and Twelfth‐Century Latin Documents: Insights from the Codice Diplomatico Veneziano

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigates the lexicographical potential of Medieval Latin documentation from the Venetian area of the Italo‐Romance domain, highlighting the need for a systematic approach to bridge Latin and vernacular linguistic developments. The project MEDITA – Medieval Latin Documentation and Digital Italo‐Romance Lexicography.

Mean Biases Dominate CMIP6 Model Deficiencies in Simulating Heavy Rainfall During Monsoon Intraseasonal Oscillation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 6, 28 March 2026.
Abstract The monsoon intraseasonal oscillation (MISO) modulates heavy precipitation during the Indian summer monsoon, but accurate rainfall simulation remains a challenge in state‐of‐the‐art models. Our analysis reveals a moisture bias in MISO using simulations from the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project models.

Decadal Variability of the Extratropical Response to the Madden–Julian Oscillation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
The Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO) is the leading mode of sub‐seasonal variability in the tropical atmosphere and is a source of predictability for extratropical weather through its teleconnections. MJO teleconnection patterns can be modulated by the El

The application of the real-time multivariate Madden-Julian Oscillation Index to intraseasonal rainfall forecasting in the mid-latitudes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The Madden-Julian Oscillation is a tropical atmospheric phenomenon detected as anomalies in zonal winds, convection and cloudiness. This perturbation has a definitive timescale of about thirty to sixty days, allowing its signal to be extracted from ...
