Improved biocompatibility and efficient labeling of neural stem cells with poly(L-lysine)-coated maghemite nanoparticles

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Nanotechnology, 2016
Background: Cell tracking is a powerful tool to understand cellular migration, dynamics, homing and function of stem cell transplants. Nanoparticles represent possible stem cell tracers, but they differ in cellular uptake and side effects.

Enhancing the phase, thermal stability, band gap energy, and surface area of iron oxide nanoparticles by varying reducing agents and examining their efficacy in photocatalytic dye degradation

open access: yesMaterials Today Sustainability
Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using NaOH, NaBH4, and Calpurnia aurea leaf extract as reducing agents. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of hematite nanoparticles with rhombohedral structure when using NaOH and NaBH4 as reducing agents ...

Preparation of Monodisperse Iron Oxide Nanoparticles via the Synthesis and Decomposition of Iron Fatty Acid Complexes

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2009
Iron fatty acid complexes (IFACs) are prepared via the dissolution of porous hematite powder in hot unsaturated fatty acid. The IFACs are then decomposed in five different organic solvents under reflux conditions in the presence of the respective fatty ...

Some Canadian occurrences of maghemite

open access: yes, 1970
Maghemite has been found in samples from the lateritic 'buckshot ' ore bands of the Steep Rock Lake iron deposits. Partial chemical analysis of a magnetic concentrate gave 84. 42 per cent Fe 2o3, 0 . 36 per cent FeO, and 2.8 per cent H 2o. The maghemite has a cell edge of 8 .33 + . 01 A, and an average Vickers microhardness of 920.
