Engineering Gold Shelled Nanomagnets for Pre-Setting the Operating Temperature for Magnetic Hyperthermia

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
This study investigated the fabrication of spherical gold shelled maghemite nanoparticles for use in magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) assays. A maghemite core (14 ± 3 nm) was used to fabricate two samples with different gold thicknesses, which presented gold (

Maghemite Functionalization for Antitumor Drug Vehiculization [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Pharmaceutics, 2012
In this paper we describe the preparation and characterization of magnetic nanocomposites designed for applications in targeted drug delivery. Combining superparamagnetic behavior with proper surface functionalization in a single entity makes it possible to have altogether controlled location and drug loading, and release capabilities.

Local Structure and Magnetism of Fe2O3 Maghemite Nanocrystals: The Role of Crystal Dimension

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2020
Here we report on the impact of reducing the crystalline size on the structural and magnetic properties of γ-Fe2O3 maghemite nanoparticles. A set of polycrystalline specimens with crystallite size ranging from ~2 to ~50 nm was obtained combining ...

Reassessing the role of magnetite during natural hydrogen generation

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Interactions between water and ferrous rocks are known to generate natural H2 in oceanic and continental domains via the oxidation of iron. Such generation has been mainly investigated through the alteration of Fe2+-silicate and some Fe2+-carbonates.

Finite-Size and surface effects in maghemite nanoparticles: Monte Carlo simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Finite-size and surface effects in fine particle systems are investigated by Monte Carlo simulation of a model of a $\gamma$-Fe$_2$O$_3$ (maghemite) single particle.

Magneto-sensitive hybrid nanocomposites of water-soluble sodium alginate cross-linked with calcium ions and maghemite

open access: yeseXPRESS Polymer Letters, 2018
A synthetic procedure is described for preparation of magneto-sensitive nanocomposites from maghemite nanoparticles and a natural polysaccharide, sodium alginate cross-linked with calcium ions.

Surface effects in maghemite nanoparticles

open access: yesJournal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2007
A consistent model is presented for the variation of saturation magnetization with particle size in maghemite nanoparticles, based on the existence of a magnetically disordered layer with a constant thickness of 1 nm. For particles smaller than 3 nm, layer thickness increases rapidly, and MS is already zero for 2.5 nm particle size.
