Observations of extragalactic sources with the MAGIC telescope [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 2007
MAGIC is currently the world's largest single dish ground based imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope. During the first year of operation, more than 20 extragalactic sources have been observed and several of them detected. Here we present results of analyzed data, including discussion about spectral and temporal properties of the detected sources. In

The Galactic Center Region Imaged by VERITAS from 2010{2012

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2014
The galactic center has long been a region of interest for high-energy and very-high-energy observations. Many potential sources of GeV/TeV gamma-ray emission are located in this region, e.g.

Follow-up observations of GW170817 with the MAGIC telescopes [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of 37th International Cosmic Ray Conference — PoS(ICRC2021), 2021
The discovery of the electromagnetic counterpart AT2017gfo and the GRB 170817A, associated to the binary neutron star merger GW170817, was one of the major advances in the study of gamma- ray bursts (GRBs) and the hallmark of the multi-messenger astronomy with gravitational waves.

Galactic Center Observations with CTAO LST-1 [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Very-high-energy gamma-ray observations of the central part of the Milky Way Galaxy allow for morphological study of cosmic-ray propagation around the supermassive black hole Sgr A*. An interpretation of the diffuse gamma-ray component, which spans a few

The ASTRI mini-array within the future Cherenkov Telescope Array

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a large collaborative effort aimed at the design and operation of an observatory dedicated to very high-energy gamma-ray astrophysics in the energy range from a few tens of GeV to above 100 TeV, which will yield ...

Phantom Limbs: Affect, Haptics and ‘Partes De Mucha Gente’ in Mariana Enriquez's Nuestra Parte De Noche

open access: yesBulletin of Latin American Research, EarlyView.
In Mariana Enriquez's Nuestra parte de noche (Our Share of Night), the insistence on narrating putrid wounds and hewn limbs seeks to reinvigorate stagnant tropes, to highlight the corporeal cruelty obfuscated by the ghostly. This article explores the association between textures and emotions, specifically questioning what it can lead to when remains ...

Light travel time effects in blazar flares

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences
In this study, a model for light travel time effects for emission from a plasma blob in a blazar jet is presented. This calculation could be incorporated into more complex models with particle acceleration and radiation mechanisms, but as presented here,

Alternative Approaches for Estimating Highest‐Density Regions

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, EarlyView.
Summary Among the variety of statistical intervals, highest‐density regions (HDRs) stand out for their ability to effectively summarise a distribution or sample, unveiling its distinctive and salient features. An HDR represents the minimum size set that satisfies a certain probability coverage, and current methods for their computation require ...

ATMOSFEAR: Horror of nature and the nature of horror in Algernon Blackwood

open access: yesOrbis Litterarum, EarlyView.
Abstract The impact that the stories of Algernon Blackwood (1869–1951) have had on the literature of the uncanny can hardly be overestimated. However, there is almost no research on Blackwood's life and work. Against the background of a presentation of themes and motifs of Blackwood's narrative œuvre, this article develops a characteristic of his ...
