Adapting STEMM in Hawaiʻi: Necessary actions for one of the most diverse places in the United States
Hawai'i's diverse population prime it to be an exemplary environment to study representation in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM). This graphical abstract juxtaposes the idealized version of Hawai'i that negates its complex history in favor of evocative imagery, with lessons in STEMM highlighting areas of improvement ...

Not So Fast: A New Catalog of Meteor Persistent Trains
Abstract This paper presents the results of a nearly 2‐year long campaign to detect and analyze meteor persistent trains (PTs)—self‐emitting phenomena which can linger up to an hour after their parent meteor. The modern understanding of PTs has been primarily developed from the Leonid storms at the turn of the century; our goal was to assess the ...

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are particle acceleration sites that can emit photons in the very high-energy (VHE) domain through nonthermal processes. From 2004 until 2018, the current generation of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) did not ...

Observations of Very High Energy Gamma-Rays during Moonlight and Twilight with the MAGIC Telescope
We study the capability of the MAGIC telescope to observe under moderate moonlight. TeV gamma-ray signals from the Crab nebula were detected with the MAGIC telescope during periods when the Moon was above the horizon and during twilight.

The Central Control of the MAGIC telescopes
The second MAGIC telescope, a clone of the first 17 m diameter MAGIC telescope, has entered the final commissioning phase and will soon start to take data, preferentially in the so-called stereo-mode. The control system for both telescopes is assigned to a number of autonomous functional units called subsystems.
