Learning Wave Scattering Properties From Seismograms
Abstract Heterogeneities in the Earth's crust scatter seismic waves at many scales, trapping seismic energy and producing coda waves that encode valuable information on geological structures. In regions such as volcanoes and fault systems, analyzing coda waves is essential for characterizing non‐uniform subsurface heterogeneity, improving ...

Mathematical Modeling of Measured Recalescence Velocities
ABSTRACT A moving‐boundary problem of synchronous directional and volumetric solidification in undercooled liquid drops is formulated and solved. Directional solidification is caused by the temperature gradient along the spatial direction, whereas volumetric growth of new phase elements is caused by the melt undercooling ahead of the phase transition ...

The 2024 Fentale Diking Episode in a Slow Extending Continental Rift
Dikes can contribute to rifting, but the space‐time behavior and role of magma in young and slowly extending continental rifts is unclear. We use InSAR and seismicity during the 2024 Fentale intrusion in the Main Ethiopian rift (MER) to understand magma ...

Abstract Observations of ground deformation provide insights on the triggering mechanisms of eruptions. At Aniakchak Crater (Aleutians) InSAR measured ∼ ${\sim} $72 cm of uplift in less than 7 months between 2022 and 2023. The uplift can be explained by the inflation of a point pressure source at a depth of 3.2 km.

Characterizing Martian Primary Crustal Compositions With Gamma Ray Spectroscopy
Abstract Mars's global‐scale chemical maps of the midlatitudes, derived from Mars Odyssey gamma and neutron spectroscopy, have constrained martian geology across a multitude of processes. However, the chemical maps are often used to analyze pre‐defined regions based on mapped geology and/or mineralogy.

Abstract Alaska's tectonic complexity makes it ideal for probing upper mantle deformation. We present a 3D shear‐wave anisotropy model obtained by inverting 7,985 SKS splitting intensity measurements from 261 broadband stations using 941 events from 2000 to 2023.

Abstract We analyze Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data to characterize ground deformation and dike opening associated with the May 2021 Nyiragongo eruption. Despite documented eruptions in 1977 and 2002, Nyiragongo's magmatic system and its interaction with regional rifting remain poorly ...
