Magma supply, magma ascent and the style of volcanic eruptions

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2007
Abstract We propose a new way of looking at the sequence of events leading to different styles of silicic, volcanic eruptions. Small-to-medium sized eruptions, either explosive or effusive, are explained by the ascent of isolated magma batches from mid-crustal magma chambers.

Magma Ascent and Eruption Triggered by Cratering on the Moon [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
AbstractOn the Moon, the low‐density crust exerts a strong filter to magma ascent. Many lunar craters are filled with mare, and evidence of pyroclastic activity and shallow magmatism is often located within craters called floor‐fractured craters (FFCs).
