CO2 Adsorption Performance and Kinetics of Ionic Liquid-Modified Calcined Magnesite

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2021
CO2 is a major contributor to global warming, and considerable efforts have been undertaken to capture and utilise it. Herein, a nanomaterial based on ionic liquid (IL)–modified calcined magnesites was investigated for CO2 capture.

Six Ca‐Mg‐Fe Carbonate Reference Materials for In Situ Measurement of Oxygen and Carbon Isotope Ratios

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points Six new Ca‐Mg‐Fe carbonate reference materials are available to the global geochemical community for calibrating oxygen and carbon isotope ratios by SIMS. Significant compositional matrix effects were observed in the dolomite‐ankerite and magnesite‐siderite series during SIMS analysis. Compositional matrix effects correlate with Fe variation.

New Magnetite Reference Material for SIMS δ18O Measurements and a Study of Precision and Accuracy Due to Crystal Orientation Effects

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points A new magnetite reference material (PF21mt) is available for δ18O measurements by SIMS. Reproducibility of measurement results in two laboratories suggest orientation bias of ±2‰ (2s) at 20 keV. Repeatability improves to ±1‰ (2s) when using a 13 keV protocol, suggesting reduced orientation bias. In situ isotope ratio measurements provide the

Microstructures and properties of microporous magnesia aggregates from Mg(OH)2 and magnesite

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies
Microporous MgO refractory aggregates were prepared with Mg(OH)2 and magnesite by the in-situ decomposition method, and the influence of magnesite content on the microstructures and properties of the aggregates was investigated.

Nondestructive Raman investigation on wall paintings at Sala Vaccarini in Catania (Sicily) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this work, the results of a Raman campaign for studying seventeenth-century Sicilian frescoes, by using two portable Raman systems, equipped with different excitation sources (785 and 1064 nm), are proposed.

Apatite in Bennu samples indicates multiple stages of aqueous alteration

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Calcium phosphates are ubiquitous in planetary materials, including samples returned from asteroid Bennu by the OSIRIS‐REx mission. We characterized apatite [Ca5(PO4)3(F,Cl,OH)] grains in Bennu samples by scanning electron microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, and transmission electron microscopy to investigate their compositions, mineral ...

Geological characteristic of the talc deposit [PDF]

open access: yesActa Montanistica Slovaca, 1997
A deposit with magnesite - talc mineralisation was explored northerly of the Gemerská Poloma, Rožòava district, Slovakia, in the years 1988 - 1995. Magnesites in the gemericum unit are only sporadically accompanied by talc.

X‐ray computed tomography study of terrestrial analog cores in preparation for Mars sample return

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Mars Sample Return (MSR) is expected to transform planetary science by providing unprecedented access to pristine Martian material. Initial characterization in the sample receiving facility (SRF) will rely on nondestructive techniques such as X‐ray computed tomography (XCT) to document the condition, distribution, and internal features of ...
