Rock-eating mycorrhizas: their role in plant nutrition and biogeochemical cycles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A decade ago, tunnels inside mineral grains were found that were likely formed by hyphae of ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungi. This observation implied that EcM fungi can dissolve mineral grains. The observation raised several questions on the ecology of these

MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY IN LUCERNE

open access: yesProceedings of the New Zealand Grassland Association, 1972
An experiment was conducted on lucerne (cv. Wairau), growing on a yellow-brown pumice soil low in magnesium. Under a regime of four harvests annually, small but sign&cant yield responses of 4 and 5% were obtained in the third year to additions of 17 and 34 kg/ha Mg, respectively, when the topsoil (0 to 7.5 cm) Mg value in the control plots had ...

[Magnesium deficiency and stress: Issues of their relationship, diagnostic tests, and approaches to therapy].

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2015
Magnesium plays an important role in the functions of the central nervous system. It takes part in the regulation of the cell membrane, the transmembrane transport of calcium and sodium ions, and metabolic reactions that produce, accumulate, transfer ...

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Management of trace elements and vitamins in organic ruminant livestock nutrition in the context of the whole farm system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
There is a wealth of information on the vital role of trace minerals in ruminant health. This information gives some reasonable indications of the levels required by dairy and beef animals to maintain good health though there is much less information ...

MAGNESIUM IN THE TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF MIGRAINE

open access: yesСеченовский вестник, 2022
Magnesium — intracellular cation — is important in many pathological processes including the pathogenesis of migraine. Magnesium deficiency in patients with migraine may be developed as a result of genetic inability to absorb magnesium and its excessive ...

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant

Proteomic analysis of Citrus sinensis roots and leaves in response to long-term magnesium-deficiency

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2015
BackgroundMagnesium (Mg)-deficiency is frequently observed in Citrus plantations and is responsible for the loss of productivity and poor fruit quality. Knowledge on the effects of Mg-deficiency on upstream targets is scarce.

Cytomegalovirus infection is common in prostate cancer and antiviral therapies inhibit progression in disease models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Human cytomegalovirus infection is common in normal prostate epithelium, prostate tumor tissue, and prostate cancer cell lines. CMV promotes cell survival, proliferation, and androgen receptor signaling. Anti‐CMV pharmaceutical compounds in clinical use inhibited cell expansion in prostate cancer models in vitro and in vivo, motivating investigation ...
