Superconductivity at 39 K in magnesium diboride

Nature, 2001
In the light of the tremendous progress that has been made in raising the transition temperature of the copper oxide superconductors (for a review, see ref. 1), it is natural to wonder how high the transition temperature, Tc, can be pushed in other classes of materials.

Superconducting Joining Concept for Internal Magnesium Diffusion-Processed Magnesium Diboride Wires

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2021
A superconducting joint of unreacted monofilament internal magnesium diffusion-processed magnesium diboride (MgB2) wires was fabricated by exploiting the phenomenon of magnesium diffusion into the boron layer inside the superconducting joint. Unprecedentedly, the joint was able to carry an almost identical transport current compared to the bare wire in

Magnesium-diboride ramp-type Josephson junctions

Applied Physics Letters, 2002
Josephson junctions have been realized in which two superconducting magnesium-diboride (MgB2) layers are separated by a thin MgO barrier layer, using the ramp-type configuration. Their current–voltage characteristics follow the behavior described by the resistively shunted junction model, with an excess current of about 30% of the critical current Ic ...

TWO GAP SIGNATURE IN MAGNESIUM DIBORIDE

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2002
Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy is used at low temperature in an extensive study of the recently discovered superconducting compound MgB2 . Both powder- and crystal-based samples show a very unusual double-gap structure in the tunneling conductance spectra.

Magnesium diboride: one year on

Physics World, 2002
AT THE end of 2000 superconductivity in metal alloys and compounds appeared to remain trapped by a glass ceiling. Over the previous 10 years the temperature at which certain oxide-based compounds – such as bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide and mercury barium calcium copper oxide – lost their resistance to electric current had soared to well over ...

Magnetic levitation using magnesium diboride

Journal of Applied Physics, 2005
We have investigated the levitation properties of magnesium diboride. The samples were prepared from magnesium and boron using the reactive liquid infiltration method. The precursor, which is made by pressing boron powder is infiltrated by liquid magnesium, resulting in a reaction to magnesium diboride.
