Development of Cast Magnesium Matrix Composites

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1990
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Near net-shape casting of magnesium matrix composites provides an interesting opportunity to expand the applications of cast magnesium products. In this work, squeeze casting was used to evaluate a series of different short fiber preforms infiltrated with a matrix of high purity AZ91 alloy.

Fabrication and characterization of AZ91/CNT magnesium matrix composites

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
Carbon Nano Tube (CNT) reinforced AZ91 metal matrix composites (MMC) were fabricated by the squeeze infiltrated method. Properties of magnesium alloys have been improved by impurity reduction, surface treatment and alloy design, and thus the usage for the magnesium alloys has been extended recently.

Magnesium-lithium matrix composites an overview

International Journal of Materials and Product Technology, 2003
Ultralight magnesium-lithium alloys offer great weight-saving potential for various engineering applications but their intrinsic deficiencies such as low creep strength, low stiffness and poor corrosion resistance are serious setbacks as to the competition with other lightweight alloys.

Magnesium Matrix Composites for Elevated Temperature Applications

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Recently, there have been substantial activities focusing on the development of magnesium alloys for high temperature applications (&gt;150°C) through alloying additions, in order to expand its use. However, a simple route of improving the elevated temperature property of a magnesium alloy through the composite

Magnesium Matrix Composites Reinforced with Titanium Particles

Materials Science Forum, 2009
In fabricating metal matrix composites, it is important to evaluate the coherence at the interface between the reinforcements and the matrix metal. Titanium particulates were selected as suitable reinforcements in this study because they had high hardness and Young’s modulus compared to the magnesium alloys used as the matrix, and also showed better ...

Study of Peripheral Milling of Magnesium Matrix Composite

Volume 2A: Advanced Manufacturing, 2019
Abstract An experimental investigation on peripheral milling of magnesium composite AZ91 magnesium matrix with 15 vol.% SiC particles of a nominal 3–4 μm was performed to study the cutting forces generated, surface finish of the machined surface and the tool wear as a function of cutting conditions.

On the wear of aluminium and magnesium metal matrix composites

Wear, 1993
Abstract The effect of fibre reinforcement of aluminium, magnesium and Mg-9Al-1Zn on the wear properties has been investigated. Dry sliding, two- and three-body abrasion and solid particle erosion testing were performed. The results show that the tribological behaviour of metal matrix composites (MMCs) depends very much on the type of MMC and the ...

Corrosion of carbon/magnesium metal matrix composites

Scripta Metallurgica, 1987
