Double Slag Operating Standard for Mitigation of CO2 Emissions in Basic Oxygen Steelmaking

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steelmaking uses a double slag process (DSP) to produce low‐phosphorus steel. To reduce carbon emissions in a BOF, the hot metal ratio (HMR) must be lowered. The present article describes the optimal conditions for DSP operations under low‐HMR conditions: temperature of 1360 ± 5 °C, total Fe content of 10 ± 2 wt%, basicity (=

Modeling the Thermal Properties of Hydrogen‐Based Direct Reduced Iron Using Computational Thermodynamics and Machine Learning

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrogen‐based direct reduced iron (H‐DRI) melts differently from scrap and carbon‐bearing DRI. This work combines differential scanning calorimetry experiments, FactSage thermodynamics, and simple composition‐based regression to predict solidus, liquidus, heat capacity, and enthalpy for H‐DRI.

Agglomeration Behavior of Nonmetallic Particles on the Surface of Si‐Killed Liquid Steel Using HT‐CSLM: An In Situ Investigation

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The in situ agglomeration behavior of semisolid Al–silicate inclusions in Si‐killed steel is studied using high‐temperature confocal scanning laser microscopy. Particle motion and interparticle forces at the steel/argon interface are quantified and compared with a modified capillary interaction model.

Sequential Reduction of Chromite Pellets Using Hydrogen and Silicon Carbide for Carbon Emission Abatement During Ferrochrome Production

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
H2 prereduction selectively metallizes Fe in UG2 chromite pellets at 1100°C, while silicon carbide becomes active at 1300°C to convert remaining Cr2O3 to carbides and promote Cr metallization. By separating the roles of H2 and SiC, the sequential route reaches up to 65.7% Cr metallization and suppresses in‐furnace CO generation by ≈75% versus ...

Suppression Characteristics and Mechanism of MCA@ADP‐MMT Composite Powder on Aluminum Powder Explosion

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
MCA@ADP‐MMT can effectively slow down the combustion of Al powder and suppress the occurrence of explosion through the synergistic effect of multiple suppression mechanisms including dilution, quenching, and barrier. ABSTRACT The advancement of precision machining technology has heightened safety concerns regarding aluminum (Al) powder explosions in Al

Enhancing durability of steam‐cured precast concrete culverts using SCMs: A comparative study with delithiated beta spodumene

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Steam curing is commonly used to manufacture precast culverts to accelerate early strength development. This study investigates the effect of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) on the permeability properties of steam‐cured precast concrete culverts.

Cyanogenic Compounds, Physicochemical Parameters and Metals in Water From Cassava Processing Areas: A Study in the Brazilian Amazon, Using Multivariate Analysis

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the water quality of artesian wells and effluents generated in cassava processing in a rural area of Bragança, Pará, with emphasis on physicochemical parameters, multielement composition, and cyanogenic compounds. The well water presented specific nonconformities, highlighting pH values below the recommended level and high
