Abstract A recently developed nondestructive method, called magnetic adaptive testing, which is based on systematic measurement of minor magnetic hysteresis loops, was applied for detection of local wall thinning in ferromagnetic plates. It was shown that even a relatively small, local modification of the sample thickness could be detected with good ...

Nondestructive evaluation of low carbon steel by magnetic adaptive testing
Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation, 2010Three series of low carbon steel samples, plastically deformed by cold rolling to five consecutive stages of deformation, were investigated by the method of magnetic adaptive testing (MAT), typical by its low required magnetisation of samples. Samples in one series were magnetically closed; those in the other two series were magnetically open.

Temperature Dependence of Magnetic Descriptors of Magnetic Adaptive Testing
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2010The method of Magnetic Adaptive Testing (MAT) was applied for investigation of ductile cast iron samples having matrix and graphite structure. This method is typical by its low required magnetization of samples, because it is based on the measurement of minor magnetic hysteresis loops and calculates magnetic descriptors for characterization of the ...

Inspection of steel degradation by magnetic adaptive testing
NDT & E International, 2008Abstract A series of low-carbon steel samples is investigated in the frame of a chain of magnetic non-destructive measurements on round robin samples, organized by the Universal Network for Magnetic Non-Destructive Evaluation. The samples have been plastically deformed by cold rolling to five consecutive stages of deformation.

Investigation of experimental conditions in magnetic adaptive testing
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2007Influence of the magnetizing and pick-up conditions on the optimum magnetic descriptors of magnetic adaptive testing (MAT) was studied by measuring a series of cold-rolled austenitic stainless steel samples. It was found that the way of magnetization and of picking-up the signal had no qualitative influence on relative values of the descriptors.

Influence of rate of change of magnetization processes on sensitivity of magnetic adaptive testing
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2009The rate of change of magnetizing field (field-slope), applied for the nondestructive method of magnetic adaptive testing, influences both signal-to-noise ratio and sensitivity of the chosen magnetic parameters with respect to the investigated degradation of the ferromagnetic material (degradation functions).

Magnetic adaptive testing—low magnetization, high sensitivity assessment of material modifications
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2006Abstract Principles of optimization of magnetic hysteresis non-destructive evaluation of structural degradation of ferromagnetic construction materials—referred to as the method of magnetic adaptive testing (MAT)—is described and examples of application are listed in the references. The multi-parametric descriptors of the material degradation defined

Investigation of Cast Iron Matrix Constituents by Magnetic Adaptive Testing
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2019Two types of cast iron materials—flake graphite cast iron and ductile cast iron—were investigated by the method of magnetic adaptive testing, which is based on the systematic measurement and the evaluation of minor magnetic hysteresis loops. In all cases, even within the same type of material rather big differences existed considering both the chemical

Complex Characterization of Degradation of Ferromagnetic Materials by Magnetic Adaptive Testing
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013Tensile tests of plastically deformed specimens were performed in order to investigate the relation between variation of magnetic characteristics and residual plastic strain. Deformed steel (CSN 12050) specimens were investigated by the method of magnetic adaptive testing (MAT), measuring and evaluating series of minor magnetic hysteresis loops. It was

Nondestructive characterization of ductile cast iron by magnetic adaptive testing
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2010This paper reports correlation of magnetic descriptors with Brinell hardness and conductivity of ductile cast iron, aiming to develop a novel nondestructive method by magnetic adaptive testing. Four series of cast iron staircase-shaped samples were investigated by this method, where different cooling rates of samples during casting resulted in ...
