Plastic deformation effects on magnetic Barkhausen noise
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000Plastically deformed steel specimens were analyzed using surface magnetic Barkhausen noise (MBN). Three types of samples were investigated: mild steel specimens uniaxially deformed up to 40% strain, mild steel specimens deformed in bending to 0.2% longitudinal strain, cold-rolled nuclear reactor pressure vessel steel specimens from 0% to 60% reduction ...

Magnetic Barkhausen noise measurement by resonant coil method
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2009Abstract This paper describes a powerful new technique for nondestructive evaluation of ferromagnetic material. A method has been developed for measuring magnetic Barkhausen signals under different coil resonance frequencies. The measurements allow one to establish the behavior relating the power spectral density maximum and the resonant coil ...

Magnetic Barkhausen Noise in Quenched Carburized Nickel-Steels
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2012Two steel sheets, one with 5% Ni and another with 10% Ni, were submitted to carburization and quenching, obtaining a microstructure with martensite and retained austenite. These steels were characterized with magnetic Barkhausen noise (MBN). The Barkhausen signal is distinctively different for the carburized and quenched samples.

Barkhausen noise in nucleation-type hard magnetic materials
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2004Abstract The Barkhausen effect was experimentally investigated in sintered NdFeB hard magnetic materials. We analyzed noise properties along different magnetization curves. The jumps are associated with the reversal of single grains or of groups of grains.

Characterization of Steel Microstructures by Magnetic Barkhausen Noise Technique
2011Optimization and control of the microstructure is vital for improving performance and service life of the steel components. Development of non-destructive techniques for microstructure characterization has been a challenging task for many years.

Magnetic viscosity and barkhausen noise in NdFeB-type permanent magnets
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1997Abstract The Barkhausen noise and magnetic viscosity in sintered and melt-quenched needles of anisotropic NdFeB-type magnets are examined. In the sintered magnet, the time integral of the Barkhausen signal during magnetic viscosity is shown to correlate with the change in the bulk magnetisation as measured using a vibrating sample magnetometer.

Important Factors Influencing the Magnetic Barkhausen Noise Profile
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2016The systematic effects of applied current amplitude to the magnetizing coil, distance between the poles of the electromagnetic yoke, magnetic excitation frequency, sensitivity and frequency response of magnetic Barkhausen noise (MBN) pickup coil, and the geometry of the test sample on the applied magnetic field strength, the tangential magnetic field ...

Gear Quality Assessment Using Magnetic Barkhausen Noise Technique
2012The Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) technique is considered as a potential Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) method for assessing material properties in case-hardened gears. For gear manufacturing industries, the evaluation of material properties such as tempering induced changes in hardness level and the associated microstuctural changes, variations in
