Stern-Gerlach effect without magnetic-field gradient

open access: yes, 2003
The Stern-Gerlach effect is the well-known spin-dependent splitting of a neutral particle beam by a magnetic-field gradient. Guided by the pseudomagnetic analogy, we performed a similar experiment where no magnetic-field gradient is involved. The effect

Blood Biomarkers and Surface‐Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy for Gout: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic illustrating gout disease progression from asymptomatic hyperuricemia to chronic tophaceous disease, highlighting the limitations of conventional imaging and biochemical diagnostics and the potential of engineered SERS platforms for ultrasensitive blood‐based detection of urate‐related biomarkers across disease stages, with the color gradient

A Dual‐Functional Electrolyte Additive for Highly Reversible Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) as a dual‐function additive for aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. TBAB disrupts the hydrogen‐bond network of water while TBA+ adsorbs on Zn to improve interfacial wettability and regulate Zn2+ flux, resulting in suppressed dendrite growth and parasitic reactions. This synergy extended the lifespan of Zn|

A simple but robust isotropic and background gradient independent diffusion gradient design

open access: yes, 2008
Due to computation and design complexity, there is no design so far for isotropic and background gradient independent diffusion gradients. In this abstract, we present a simple but robust method to design orientation invariant and background magnetic ...

Digitizing the Filtration Interface: A Smart, Modular Janus Wood Platform for Self‐Reporting Oil/Water Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work developed a smart Janus wood membrane integrating asymmetric wettability with built‐in electrical sensing for oil‐water separation. The membrane achieved > 99.5% separation efficiency and high flux by leveraging wood's natural anisotropic pore structure.

Discrimination and identification of unexploded ordinances (UXO) using airborne magnetic gradients

open access: yes, 2004
The problem of discriminating the magnetic dipoles of objects on the surface of the earth, possible unexploded ordinances (UXO), from the effect of the earth’s magnetic field in airborne magnetic field gradient data was proposed.

Magnetic Maps of Indoor Environments for Precise Localization of Legged and Non-legged Locomotion

open access: yes, 2013
The magnetic field in indoor environments is rich in features and exceptionally easy to sense. In conjunction with any form of odometry, such as wheel- or IMUbased, a map of this field can be used to precisely localize a human or robot in indoor ...

Unified Analytical Framework for Understanding the Operational Stability of Blue Phosphorescent OLEDs: Quantitative Insights Into Exciton Recycling and Bimolecular Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Blue phosphorescent OLEDs remain limited by poor operational stability. Here, a unified analytical framework integrating transient photoluminescence and magneto‐electroluminescence is developed to correlate intrinsic material photophysics with electrically driven degradation.
