Wearable magnetic field sensing for finger tracking

Proceedings of the 2020 International Symposium on Wearable Computers, 2020
Obtaining a signal useful for continuous pointing input is still an open problem for wearables. While magnetic field sensing is one promising approach, there are significant limitations. Our key contribution in this work is a simulation of a system that tracks a magnet in 3D while also accounting for the ambient magnetic field.

Magnetic Field Sensing Techniques

2021
We provide an overview of some of the most widely used magnetic field sensing techniques: Hall sensors, fluxmeters, fluxgates, anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) and giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensors, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) magnetometers.

Magnetic-field sensing with a single-mode fiber

Optics Letters, 1981
A fiber-optic magnetic-field sensor is constructed by bonding a single-mode fiber to a nickel cylinder. The magnetic field, by means of the magnetostrictive effect, alters the state of polarization of light in the fiber. A sensitivity of 1.76 x 10(-2) rad/m Oe is demonstrated, permitting detection of fields as small as 4.4 x 10(-6) Oe/m of fiber.

Multi-dimensional sensing of magnetic field

Proceedings of the 33rd Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2002
Silicon sensors capable of measuring the two in-plane components of magnetic field and the total magnetic field vector are presented. The devices are based on lateral magnetotransistor action and are designed as differential multicollector structures.

Animals and their Ability to Sense Magnetic Fields

Journal of Agricultural & Food Information, 2020
An additional sense may sound like the creative musings of a science fiction author, but a sixth sense in animals actually is well documented within the scientific literature.

Fiber optic sensing of magnetic fields

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
Interferometric fiber sensors using highly magnetostrictive amorphous metals have demonstrated the capability to detect magnetic fields with high resolution. These sensors have potential applications in the areas of geophysics, medical technology, and a variety of commercial and military fields.

Magnetic field-based sensing method for spherical joint

2010 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2010
This paper presents a sensing method that harnesses the capacity of modern sensors to measure vector fields. This approach directly maps distributed independent field measurements to the instantaneous orientation of a spherical joint embedded with low-cost permanent magnets.

Test and Testability of a Monolithic MEMS for Magnetic Field Sensing

Journal of Electronic Testing, 2001
This paper addresses MEMS testing through a case study: a micromachined magnetic field sensor with on-chip electronics. The sensor element is based on a cantilever beam that is deflected by means of the Lorentz force. Embedded piezoresistors are used to detect strain in the cantilever beam and thus to detect the magnetic field.

Optical fibers with composite magnetic coating for magnetic field sensing

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2004
Abstract The investigated system for optical fiber sensor was multi-mode optical fiber with magnetic composite coating. Polymer component of composite coating was poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate)-EVA, and the magnetic component was powder of SmCo 5 permanent magnet in form of single domain particles.
