Magnetic fractionation of magnetic fluids
Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2000The properties of magnetic nanoparticles in magnetic fluids often exhibit a broad distribution, so in many applications only a small number of particles contribute to the desired magnetic effect. In order to optimize magnetic fluids for applications, preference is given to methods that separate the nanoparticles on the basis of their magnetic ...

SINCE THE ANNOUNCEMENT of the magnetic fluid by J. Rabinow1 in 1948, several manufacturers have been producing magnetic fluid clutches for use primarily in servomechanisms. Though some manufacturers also have produced designs for breaking service, the author knows of no instance where the magnetic fluid has been used for absorption-dynamometer ...

AGGREGATION IN MAGNETIC FLUIDS AND MAGNETIC FLUID COMPOSITES
Chemical Engineering Communications, 1988Many of the properties of magnetic fluids and magnetic fluid composites can be explained by the presence of aggregates of particles. In this paper, the experimental methods by which these properties can be studied are reviewed. Theoretical methods of predicting these properties, and the particle size and magnetic field dependence of the formation of ...

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2000
The paper presents a non-conventional actuator with magnetic fluid, generating low forces and very small displacements, controlled by an electric current. A comparative study of the two versions is performed by means of the transfer characteristics. The device might be used in the fine control of some small mechanisms (e.g., the blades of the pneumatic

Thermosensitive magnetic fluids
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2006Magnetic core–shell particles were synthesized by the attachment of a polymeric brush on the surface of magnetite nanoparticles. The hybrid particles are well dispersible in good solvents for the polymeric shell and form thermoreversible magnetic fluids in carrier fluids with a critical solution behaviour.

A new type of magnetic fluid and several classes of new devices utilizing this fluid have been developed at the National Bureau of Standards. One application of this fluid has been in electromagnetic clutches, but the electro-magnetically controlled mixture offers promise for other uses also.

The paper presents a series of theoretical and experimental results concerning the influence of an exterior magnetic field of various configurations and intensities over a power dissipated by a disk brake in magnetic liquid. The formula of the dissipated power and the influence of magnetic field over this for regimes of laminar and turbulent flow of ...

Raman spectroscopy in magnetic fluids
Biomolecular Engineering, 2001In this work Raman spectroscopy was used to investigate uncoated magnetic fluids (UMF's) and coated magnetic fluids (CMF's). The coating agents were N-oleoylsarcosine, dodecanoic acid, and ethoxylated polyalcohol. The Raman probe is the hydroxyl (OH) group chemisorbed at the magnetic nanoparticle surface and the measurements were performed in the ...

Eric Rohmerâs Magnetic Fluid
2014One of the most delightful moments in the exceedingly delightful oeuvre of Eric Rohmer turns out as well to be among the most perplexing. Sitting at a cafe table one afternoon, Frederic (Bernard Verley), whose voiceover narrates L’Amour l’apres-midi (1972), has a fantasy.
