A Flux Voltmeter for Magnetic Tests
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1926A voltmeter is described for a-c. circuits the voltage indications of which are directly proportional to the maximum flux density, regardless of the wave shape of the voltage. While the instrument is suitable for many varieties of magnetic tests, its most important application is to the reduction of transformer coreloss measurements to sine-wave basis.

The magnetic field in certain strongly magnetic materials, i.e. type-II superconductors and highly anisotropic ferromagnetics, can acquire a modulation which is periodic in two dimensions. The material can be thought of as being filled with a two-dimensional crystal of magnetic flux.

A device for measuring complex permeabilities, called a magnetic flux sensor, has been constructed from ferrite. Tests of the sensor which involve the imaginary part of the complex permeability are described in this paper. With a signal-to-null ratio of 2:1, the sensor can detect a change of resistance per unit resistance in metallic samples of 1.1×10 ...

The modes of oscillation of a magnetic flux tube are explored, working from the fundamental differential equations obtained in Chapter 3. Sausage modes and kink modes (as in a magnetic slab) are investigated and their dispersion relations understood. Fluting modes also occur.
