A Giant-Magnetoresistance Sensor for Magnetic-Flux-Leakage Nondestructive Testing of a Pipeline

Russian Journal of Nondestructive Testing, 2005
This paper presents the method of magnetic-flux-leakage (MFL) detection and the characteristics of a giant-magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor. An experimental apparatus that uses a GMR sensor for oil-pipeline inspection is described. A permanent-magnet assembly was used to excite MFL signals.

Magnetic leakage flux testing with probes: physical principles and restrictions for application

NDT International, 1987
Abstract This article reviews various factors which affect magnetic flux leakage testing with probes. The authors' results for quasi-stationary magnetization are compared with results obtained by other authors for the DC magnetization. In particular, lift-off effects of the probe in combination with the influence of the defect width are discussed ...

Effects of surface roughness on magnetic flux leakage testing of micro-cracks

Measurement Science and Technology, 2017
Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing owns the advantages of high inspection sensitivity and stability, but its testing results are always affected by surface roughness. The relationship between the surface roughness () and detection signals for surface-breaking cracks is mainly discussed.

Characterizing the Surface Crack Size by Magnetic Flux Leakage Testing

1998
The work of this paper is mainly on evaluation the surface crack of different depth and width just like natural defects. First, the effect of slot width to the leakage flux is carefully studied using finite element method(FEM.). Then the “Width model” about the influence of slot width is developed.

The research of defect detection test system based on magnetic flux leakage

Proceedings of 2011 6th International Forum on Strategic Technology, 2011
According to the defect characteristics and the failure mechanisms, the defect detection technique of rail is discussed based on the magnetic flux leakage (MFL), and a test system of magnetic flux leakage based on AT89C51 is proposed. This paper firstly introduces the theory of magnetic flux leakage, and then combining with electron and circuit theory ...

The Experimental Research on Horizontal Underground Tank Magnetic Flux Leakage Testing

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing is widely used to inspect and characterize defects in storage tank floors, pipelines and other structures. In this paper, magnetic flux leakage testing technology is applied to the horizontal product oil underground tank wall inspection.

Solenoid model for visualizing magnetic flux leakage testing of complex defects

NDT & E International, 2018
Abstract Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) techniques are widely used for nondestructive testing of ferromagnetic materials. An analytical model of the MFL field is essential for precise determination and reconstruction of defects. In this paper, we proposed a solenoid model based on magnetization mechanisms of the magnetic medium to explain the MFL ...

Solenoid Model for the Magnetic Flux Leakage Testing Based on the Molecular Current

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2018
Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing is a widely applied method for the ferromagnetic specimen defect detection. In this paper, we present a solenoid analytical model to MFL field based on the molecular current model of a magnetic medium. This model applies $B$ – $H$ characteristics of the material to confirm the homogeneous magnetization of ...
