Rotary-to-Linear Magnetic Gear
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2023The paper introduces a permanent magnet rotary-to-linear magnetic gear whose topology is derived based on the operating principle of a transverse flux VRPM machine. It is shown that when the number of poles per unit length on all three members, rotor, translator and stationary flux modulating ferromagnetic pieces, are the same, the proposed gear is ...

Comparison of Coaxial Magnetic Gears With Different Topologies [PDF]
This paper quantitatively compares two coaxial magnetic gears (CMGs) with different topologies, namely, the CMG installed with radially magnetized permanent magnets (CMGRM) and the CMG installed with Halbach magnetized permanent magnets (CMGHM). By using

Gearing ratios of a magnetic gear for wind turbines
2009 IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference, 2009The wind turbine industry is growing at an incredible rate as numerous governments demand an increase in renewable energy generation capacity. The great multitude of turbines on windfarms throughout the world range from ones which are controlled mechanically with gears to ones which are controlled with power electronics and no gears. A drivetrain for a

IEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1980
The paper presents an appraisal of the problems inherent in the production of a magnetic gear. A new form of gear is presented, together with the theoretical basis of its operation, and is compared with a simple wheel gear. Experimental results are included for a complete gear and for the constructional elements.

A mathematical interpretation of a combined electromechanical device possessing the properties of a synchronous machine connected to a frequency converter and of a magnetic gear with a variable reduction factor is considered. The stator winding of the synchronous machine is concentrated (tooth winding), and its spatial period covers the full number of ...

Linear magnetic gears, when coupled with a linear permanent magnet machine, are a high-efficiency, high-reliability and force-dense alternative to traditional linear actuation solutions. It is shown that the force density of a linear magnetic gear is affected by the required output stroke and gear ratio.

Cogging Torque Analysis of Magnetic Gear
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2012This paper describes the harmonic spectra of the cogging torque of a magnetic gear. The operating principle of this gear is described, and the transmission torque under operation in accordance with the gear ratio is mathematically formulated. In particular, the harmonic order of the cogging torque is described in detail.

Magnetic Coupljng Studies Between Radial Magnetic Gears
1997 IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG'97), 1997The torque of a magnetic gear system with different magnetic poles has been investigated by computer-aided simulation with 2 dimensional modeling processes of finite element analysis. With a fixed separation of distance, the torque shows a maximum for a special number of poles, which shifts to a higher number of poles as the ratio of the radius to the ...

A new magnetic gear using permanent magnet
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1987This paper describes the structure and the performance characteristics of a magnetic gear using SmCo 5 for the permanent magnet. The magnetic gear has a gear ratio of 1/3 and the maximum transmitted torque is 5.5 Nm at the driven magnetic gear. When the rotating speed of the driving magnetic pinion is 2000 rpm, the driven magnetic gear rotates at 2000 ...

Magnet Gear with Two-Axial Magnetic Paths
Journal of the Korean Society for Precision Engineering, 2014A magnet gear composed of two layers of permanent magnets repeated circumferentially can transmit the power without mechanical contact. In the topology called by the magnet shutter gear known as the most competitive concept among the existing concepts, the number of pole-pairs on the high speed rotor corresponds to that of low speed rotor through ...
