Integrated, variable-reluctance magnetic minimotor

IBM Journal of Research and Development, 1998
The use of lithography and electroplating to fabricate variable-reluctance, nearly planar, integrated minimotors with 6-mm-diameter rotors on silicon wafers is described. The motors consist of six electroplated Permalloy® horseshoe-shaped cores that surround the rotor. Copper coils are formed around each core.

Magnetic labeling, detection, and system integration

Biosensors and Bioelectronics, 2008
Among the plethora of affinity biosensor systems based on biomolecular recognition and labeling assays, magnetic labeling and detection is emerging as a promising new approach. Magnetic labels can be non-invasively detected by a wide range of methods, are physically and chemically stable, relatively inexpensive to produce, and can be easily made ...

An integrated magnetic spectrometer for multiplexed biosensing

2013 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference Digest of Technical Papers, 2013
There is high demand for at-home and point-of-care medical diagnostic tools as a step toward fast, low-cost, personal medicine. Integrated biosensors based on magnetic labeling schemes offer higher sensitivity and lower cost due to the elimination of the optics and have emerged as a viable alternative to assays that use fluorescence for biomolecular ...

MAGNET: Columbia's Integrated Network Testbed

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1985
Fundamental issues arising in the design and implementation of architectures and protocols for integrated local area networks (ILAN's) supporting video, voice, graphics, data, and facsimile, are addressed, and open questions are identified. To characterize the performance of ILAN's, a set of performance evaluation guidelines is established.

Integrated magnetic and elastic force systems

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2002
Magnetic force increases as the distance (d) of the force- generating elements (F approximately 1/d(2)) decreases, whereas elastic force decreases as the distance decreases (F approximately kd). These opposing characteristics suggest that combining both force systems will establish an integrated system with a long-range working ability.

Integrated semiconductor magnetic field sensors

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1986
A magnetic field sensor is an entrance transducer that converts a magnetic field into an electronic signal. Semiconductor magnetic field sensors exploit the galvanomagnetic effects due to the Lorentz force on charge carriers. Integrated semiconductor, notably silicon, magnetic field sensors, are manufactured using integrated circuit technologies ...

Design of a Magnetically Integrated Microporous Implant

Archives of Ophthalmology, 2000
To determine the orbital tolerance of a microporous implant fitted with an integrated stainless steel post and the enhanced motility associated with magnetic coupling of the prosthetic and the implant in a rabbit model.Six New Zealand white rabbits underwent primary enucleation with implantation of a 12-mm microporous polyethylene implant with a 2 x 3 ...

Modeling integrated magnetic gears using a magnetic equivalent circuit

IECON 2015 - 41st Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2015
This paper introduces an integrated magnetic gear intended as direct-drive. Next, a magnetic equivalent circuit for the presented gear topology is proposed. This approach uses the principle of virtual work for torque calculation and takes magnetic leakage and saturation into account.

An Integrated Protocol for the Accurate Calculation of Magnetic Interactions in Organic Magnets

Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation, 2011
A new, fast, and efficient computational protocol for the accurate calculation of singlet-triplet magnetic splittings in organic diradicals is tested and validated. This procedure essentially consists of three steps: the adoption of modified virtual orbitals (MVO) and a mixed variational-perturbational approach (CSPA) are now combined with a third ...

Integrated data processing for archeological magnetic surveys

The Leading Edge, 2003
Magnetic methods are commonly adopted in archeological prospecting to detect and delineate shallow subsurface targets at depths of no more than 2–3 m. The examples in this article comprise a typical case where geophysical investigation has effectively delineated the main archeological features and guided the excavation in the area.
